Shop Inventory & Unlockables
The Cinema Labyrinth's concession stand isn't just for popcorn! It's your primary hub for acquiring essential gear, healing items, and valuable resources to aid your journey through the cinematic dungeons. Understanding how the shop's inventory expands and what to prioritize will significantly impact your team's effectiveness.
General Shop Inventory
The shop's stock of basic consumables and equipment will grow naturally as you progress through the main story and clear new labyrinths. Always check back after completing a new movie world or defeating a major boss, as new tiers of weapons, armor, and accessories often become available.
- Healing Items: Stock up on items like Medicine, Ointment, and later, more potent healing salves. These are crucial for dungeon crawling, especially in longer labyrinths or against tough FOEs.
- SP Recovery Items: Soul Drops and their stronger variants are invaluable. SP management is key in Persona Q2, as skills are your primary means of dealing damage and controlling battles.
- Status Cure Items: Keep a healthy supply of items like Dis-Poison, Dis-Charm, and Dis-Stun. While some passive skills can resist ailments, having dedicated cures is a lifesaver, especially against bosses who love to inflict status effects.
- Weapons & Armor: The shop offers a baseline of equipment for all characters. While crafting often yields superior gear, shop-bought items are excellent for filling gaps or providing immediate upgrades when you lack the necessary materials.
- Accessories: Basic accessories that boost stats or provide minor resistances are often available. These are good for early game or for characters who haven't found better crafted options.
Unlocking Special Inventory
Beyond the standard progression, several key items and categories of equipment are unlocked by fulfilling specific conditions, primarily through completing Requests and defeating powerful FOEs.
1. Request Rewards & Crafting Materials
Many of the most powerful weapons, armor, and accessories in Persona Q2 are not directly purchased but are crafted at the shop using materials dropped by Shadows and FOEs. Completing Requests is often the fastest way to unlock the recipes for these high-tier items.
- Specific Request Completion: Pay close attention to the rewards listed for Requests. Many will explicitly state "New Crafting Recipe Unlocked" or "New Item Available."
- FOE Drops: Defeating FOEs (Formidable Opponents) is paramount. These powerful enemies drop unique materials that are essential for crafting the best gear. For example, materials from the "Shadow of the Silver Screen" FOE in the first labyrinth are often required for early-game weapon upgrades.
- Rare Shadow Drops: Certain rare Shadows, often found on specific floors or appearing under certain conditions, drop materials for unique accessories or powerful consumables.
2. Special Consumables & Grimoires
As you delve deeper into the labyrinths and complete more challenging tasks, the shop will begin to stock more specialized items.
- Grimoires: These precious items teach Personas new skills. They are often unlocked after clearing specific labyrinths or completing particularly difficult Requests. For instance, Grimoires for elemental spells or healing skills might become available after defeating a boss weak to that element or one that heavily relies on status effects.
- Stat-Boosting Items: Items that permanently increase a Persona's stats (e.g., Power Incense, Magic Incense) become available much later in the game, often after clearing the third or fourth labyrinth. These are usually expensive and limited in stock, so use them wisely on your core Personas.
- Encounter Reducing/Increasing Items: Items like Chakra Potions (reduces encounter rate) or Lure Potions (increases encounter rate) are typically unlocked after exploring a few labyrinths and proving your competence in combat. These are useful for grinding or avoiding unnecessary battles.
3. Post-Game Content
After completing the main story, the shop's inventory will see its final, most significant expansion. This includes:
- Ultimate Equipment: The strongest weapons, armor, and accessories, requiring rare materials from the final labyrinths and post-game FOEs.
- Advanced Grimoires: Grimoires for powerful unique skills or high-tier elemental spells.
- Unlimited Stat Incense: While still expensive, some stat-boosting items may become available in unlimited quantities, allowing for extensive Persona customization.
Strategy for Shop Usage
- Regular Checks: Always check the shop's inventory after clearing a new labyrinth, defeating a major boss, or completing a significant number of Requests.
- Prioritize Crafting: While shop-bought items are convenient, always aim to craft the best possible gear using FOE and rare Shadow drops. These often provide superior stats and unique effects.
- Stockpile Essentials: Maintain a healthy stock of healing and SP recovery items. Running out in a boss fight or deep within a labyrinth can be disastrous.
- Sell Unused Materials: While many materials are for crafting, some are purely for selling. Check the item descriptions carefully. Selling excess materials is your primary source of Yen.
- Consider Future Needs: If you know a character is weak to a certain element (e.g., Joker is weak to Ice), look for accessories or crafted armor that can mitigate that weakness, turning a double damage vulnerability into a normal or even resistant hit. Passive skills like "Resist Ice" can be invaluable, and gear can complement these.
