Walkthrough: The Under
Welcome to The Under, a sprawling subterranean city that serves as a major hub in your quest. This section will guide you through its winding paths, help you snag valuable items, and prepare you for the challenges ahead. You will first arrive in The Under after defeating Nascour at Pyrite Town and pursuing him. He retreats into a secret passage, which leads directly into this hidden city. Your initial objective here is to gather information about Cipher's operations and ultimately gain access to the Deep Colosseum.
Initial Arrival and Exploration
Upon your first arrival in The Under, you'll emerge from a hidden passage near the main entrance. Take your time to explore thoroughly, as many useful items are tucked away in corners and behind buildings. This area is crucial for story progression and offers numerous opportunities for trainer battles and item collection.
Key Item Locations (First Visit)
- From the Entrance: Head straight and then take the first path to your right. You'll find a chest containing a Hyper Potion.
- Near the Central Elevator: As you approach the central elevator, look for a small alcove to the left. There's a hidden Full Heal here.
- Behind the Shop: The Under has a small shop selling various items. Circle around the back of the shop building to discover a Revive.
- Upper Level (via Ramp/Elevator): Use the ramp or elevator to reach the upper level. On the far side, near some crates, you can pick up an Ether.
- Residential Area (Lower Level): In one of the houses on the lower residential level, you can find a Max Potion.
- Near Deep Colosseum Entrance: Before you gain access, check the dead-end paths around the Deep Colosseum entrance for a Calcium.
Key Objectives and Encounters
Your primary goal in The Under is to gather information and eventually gain access to the Deep Colosseum. Be prepared for several trainer battles and important conversations. Speaking to NPCs is vital for uncovering clues.
The Under's Residents and Trainers
Speak to as many NPCs as possible. Many will offer cryptic clues, gossip, or even challenge you to a battle. Pay close attention to anyone mentioning the "Shadow Pokémon" or "Cipher." These battles are excellent for leveling up your Pokémon and practicing your Snagging techniques.

Important NPCs and Clues
- Old Man's House: Locate the house of the elderly man, Neto, who seems to know a lot about The Under's history. He's usually found near the central plaza. He'll hint at the location of the Deep Colosseum and the need for a specific item to access it. He mentions a "shady character" who deals in rare goods.
- Deep Colosseum Guard: Attempting to enter the Deep Colosseum directly will be blocked by a guard. He'll inform you that only those with a "Deep Key" are permitted entry.
Deep Colosseum Access: Obtaining the Deep Key
To proceed to the Deep Colosseum, you'll need to acquire the Deep Key. This key is not easily obtained and requires a bit of detective work and a specific trade.
- Gathering Information: After speaking with Neto, the Old Man, he'll direct you to a shady character known for "acquiring" rare items. This character is Wanderer Miror B.'s henchman, Folly, and he is usually found loitering near the entrance to the lower residential area, close to the Deep Colosseum's locked gate.
- The "Trade" Requirement: Approach Folly. He won't simply hand over the Deep Key. He'll demand a specific item in return: a Power Band. This is a crucial plot point and a common sticking point for players.
- Where to Find the Power Band:
- The Power Band is NOT found in The Under. You must return to Pyrite Town.
- Head to the Pyrite Colosseum.
- Inside the Colosseum, speak to the man standing near the entrance to the battle arena. He will mention losing something valuable.
- Go to the Pyrite Town Lighthouse. Ascend to the very top.
- On the top floor, investigate the sparkling spot on the ground. You will find the Power Band.
- Returning to Folly: Once you have the Power Band, return to The Under and speak with Folly again.
- The Trade: Present the Power Band to Folly. He will reluctantly trade you the Deep Key for it. There is no battle required for this exchange, only the specific item.
Preparing for the Deep Colosseum
Before heading into the Deep Colosseum, ensure your team is well-prepared. This area is known for its intense battles and powerful Shadow Pokémon. The Deep Colosseum is a gauntlet of trainers, culminating in a battle against a powerful Cipher Admin.
Pre-Colosseum Checklist
- Heal Up: Visit the Pokémon Center in The Under to fully restore your team's HP and PP. This is located near the main entrance.
- Stock Up: The shop in The Under sells essential items. Purchase plenty of Great Balls (or Ultra Balls if available), Full Restores, Max Potions, and Revives. You'll need them for Snagging and prolonged battles. Consider buying status-healing items like Paralyze Heals and Antidotes.
- Optimize Your Team: The Deep Colosseum features several trainers and Shadow Pokémon. Having a diverse team with strong offensive and defensive options is crucial.
- Recommended Types: Psychic, Fighting, Ground, Water, and Electric types are generally very useful.
- Snagging Preparation: Bring Pokémon with status-inducing moves (Sleep, Paralysis) and False Swipe to make Snagging Shadow Pokémon easier. Ensure you have enough Poké Balls.
- Level Check: Aim for your lead Pokémon to be around Level 30-35 for a comfortable run through the Deep Colosseum.
- Save Your Game: Always save your game before entering a major challenge like a Colosseum.
With the Deep Key in hand and your team ready, you can now proceed to the entrance of the Deep Colosseum, located in the lowest section of The Under. Present the Deep Key to the guard, and he will grant you access. Good luck, trainer!
