Catching Pokémon is a core mechanic, and having the right Poké Ball can make all the difference. Different Poké Balls have varying catch rates or special effects.

- Poké Ball: Standard ball, 1x catch rate.
- Great Ball: Improved ball, 1.5x catch rate.
- Ultra Ball: Best standard ball, 2x catch rate.
- Master Ball: Catches any Pokémon without fail. Only one per game (usually).
- Apricorn Balls (from Kurt in Azalea Town):
- Fast Ball: Better for fast Pokémon (e.g., Electabuzz, Rapidash).
- Friend Ball: Makes the caught Pokémon more friendly.
- Heavy Ball: Better for heavy Pokémon (e.g., Snorlax, Steelix).
- Level Ball: Better if your Pokémon's level is higher than the wild Pokémon's.
- Love Ball: Better if the wild Pokémon is the same species but opposite gender as your lead.
- Lure Ball: Better for Pokémon caught with a Fishing Rod.
- Moon Ball: Better for Pokémon that evolve with a Moon Stone.
- Net Ball (Crystal exclusive): Better for Water and Bug-type Pokémon.
- Dive Ball (Crystal exclusive): Better for Pokémon encountered underwater (not in Crystal, but a common misconception from later games; Net Ball is the Crystal exclusive).
- Safari Ball: Used only in the Safari Zone.
Experiment with different balls to find the most effective ones for your catching needs.
