Kanto Region Walkthrough
Congratulations, Trainer! Having conquered the Johto League, a whole new adventure awaits you in the legendary Kanto region. This section will guide you through every step, ensuring you don't miss a single item or challenge. Be prepared for tougher trainers and familiar faces!
Vermilion City
Your journey to Kanto begins in Vermilion City. Upon arrival, you'll notice some changes since your last visit (if you played Red/Blue/Yellow). The city is bustling, and there are a few key stops to make.
- Heal Up: Head straight to the Pokémon Center to restore your team's health.
- S.S. Aqua: The ship that brought you here, the S.S. Aqua, is docked. You can travel back to Olivine City in Johto by speaking to the sailor at the gangplank.
- Gym Leader Lt. Surge: Lt. Surge's Gym is still here, but he's not immediately available for a battle. You'll need to restore power to the Kanto region first.
- Fishing Guru's House: Visit the house near the docks to potentially receive a fishing rod if you don't already have one.
Route 6 & Saffron City
From Vermilion City, head north onto Route 6. This short route leads directly to Saffron City.
- Trainers: Expect a few trainers on Route 6. Their Pokémon levels will be significantly higher than those you encountered in Johto's early routes.
- Saffron City Overview: Saffron City is a major hub.
- Silph Co.: The massive Silph Co. building is still present, but there's no immediate reason to enter.
- Saffron Gym: Sabrina, the Psychic-type Gym Leader, awaits your challenge. However, like Lt. Surge, she won't battle you until Kanto's power is restored.
- Mr. Psychic's House: Located in the southeast of the city, Mr. Psychic's house is where you can obtain the TM29 (Psychic).
- Fighting Dojo: The Fighting Dojo is open, and you can challenge the trainers inside for experience.
Route 5 & Cerulean City
Continue north from Saffron City onto Route 5, which will bring you to Cerulean City.
- Underground Path: The Underground Path connecting Route 5 and Route 6 is still accessible.
- Cerulean City Overview:
- Cerulean Gym: Misty's Gym is here, but she's not in her Gym. You'll need to find her elsewhere to challenge her.
- Bike Shop: The Bike Shop is still open, but you likely already have a Bicycle from Goldenrod City.
- Item: Check behind the Cerulean Gym for a hidden Rare Candy.
Power Plant & Route 10
Your primary objective in Kanto initially is to restore power. To do this, you'll need to head to the Power Plant. From Cerulean City, head east onto Route 10.
- Rock Tunnel: The entrance to Rock Tunnel is on Route 10. You'll need Flash to navigate it easily.
- Power Plant: After exiting Rock Tunnel, continue south on Route 10 to reach the Power Plant.
- Missing Part: Speak to the manager inside the Power Plant. He'll inform you that a vital machine part has been stolen.
- Clue: The manager will mention a suspicious character seen around Cerulean City.
- Return to Cerulean City: Head back to Cerulean City.
- Gym Encounter: Go to the Cerulean Gym. You'll find a Team Rocket Grunt attempting to steal a machine part. Battle him!
- Grinding Strategy: The Grunt uses a Level 30 Golbat. Electric or Ice-type moves are effective.
- Item Recovery: After defeating the Grunt, he'll drop the Machine Part.
- Back to Power Plant: Return to the Power Plant and give the Machine Part to the manager.
- Reward: As a thank you, the manager will give you TM07 (Zap Cannon). More importantly, power will be restored to Kanto!
