The Violet City Gym is located in the northern part of the city. It specializes in Flying-type Pokémon. Before challenging Falkner, make sure your Pokémon are healed and at a good level (around Level 10-12 is recommended). Rock-type and Electric-type Pokémon are highly effective against Flying-types. Geodude (found in Dark Cave) or Mareep (found on Route 32) are excellent choices if you've caught them.
Gym Leader Falkner's Pokémon:
- Pidgey (Lv. 9)
- Pidgeotto (Lv. 13)
Falkner's Pidgeotto can be a challenge due to its high speed and Gust attack. If you have a Rock-type, use Rock Throw or Tackle. Electric-type moves are also very effective. Upon defeating Falkner, you will receive the Zephyr Badge, which allows you to use HM05 (Flash) outside of battle, and TM31 (Mud-Slap).
