Pokémon Storage System (PC)
The Pokémon Storage System, commonly referred to as the PC, is an invaluable tool for any Trainer in the Sinnoh region. It allows you to store any Pokémon beyond the six you can carry in your active party. Understanding how to effectively use the PC is crucial for managing your growing collection, preparing for battles, and even breeding.
Accessing the PC
You'll find PC terminals in every Pokémon Center across Sinnoh, as well as in various other buildings like Professor Rowan's Lab in Sandgem Town. Simply interact with the glowing computer terminal to access its functions.
PC Functions Explained
Upon accessing the PC, you'll be presented with several options:
- Deposit Pokémon: This allows you to move a Pokémon from your active party into one of the storage boxes. Select the Pokémon you wish to deposit, then choose an empty slot in a box.
- Withdraw Pokémon: Use this to retrieve a Pokémon from a storage box and place it into your active party. Remember, your party can only hold six Pokémon, so you may need to deposit one first if your party is full.
- Move Pokémon: This function is for reorganizing your Pokémon within and between boxes. You can drag and drop Pokémon to different slots or even to entirely different boxes. This is particularly useful for grouping Pokémon by type, level, or for specific training purposes.
- Move Items: While not directly related to Pokémon storage, this option allows you to move held items between your Pokémon in the boxes. This is essential for preparing Pokémon with specific items before withdrawing them for battle or breeding.
- Release Pokémon: This irreversible action permanently removes a Pokémon from your possession. Use this with extreme caution, as released Pokémon cannot be recovered. It's generally only used for managing large numbers of duplicate Pokémon or those you no longer wish to keep.
- Change Box: This option lets you navigate between the different storage boxes. Initially, you'll have a few boxes available, but more will automatically unlock as you fill them up. There are a total of 18 boxes, each capable of holding 30 Pokémon, for a grand total of 540 Pokémon storage spots!
- Log Off: Exits the PC system.
Strategic PC Usage
- Early Game Management: As you begin your adventure in Twinleaf Town and progress through areas like Route 202 and Jubilife City, you'll quickly encounter and catch many new Pokémon. Don't hesitate to deposit Pokémon you're not actively using. This keeps your party focused on your core team for easier leveling.
- HM Holders: Certain Hidden Machines (HMs) like HM01 Cut (obtained in Eterna City) or HM02 Fly (obtained in Veilstone City after helping Dawn) are crucial for navigation but might not be ideal moves for your main battle team. Consider having a dedicated "HM Slave" Pokémon stored in a PC box that you can withdraw when needed for traversal. Bidoof or Bibarel are excellent early-game candidates for this role due to their wide HM compatibility.
- Breeding Preparations: Once you reach Solaceon Town and unlock the Day-Care Center, the PC becomes vital for breeding. You'll need to deposit your parent Pokémon into the Day-Care, and any resulting Eggs or hatched Pokémon will be sent to your PC if your party is full. Organize your breeding pairs in specific boxes for easy access.
- Type Specialization: As you approach Gym Leaders like Roark in Oreburgh City (Rock-type) or Gardenia in Eterna City (Grass-type), you might want to switch out party members to gain a type advantage. Keep a diverse range of Pokémon in your boxes, leveled appropriately, so you can adapt your team as needed.
- Item Management: Don't forget the "Move Items" function! If you catch a Pokémon holding a valuable item like a Quick Claw or a Rare Candy, you can move it to another Pokémon or even to your bag by having the Pokémon hold it and then depositing it.
Mastering the Pokémon Storage System will make your journey through Sinnoh much smoother and more enjoyable, allowing you to manage your Pokémon efficiently and prepare for any challenge the region throws your way.
