The Veilstone City Gym specializes in Fighting-type Pokémon. The Gym puzzle involves moving punching bags to clear paths. Maylene, the Gym Leader, uses the following Pokémon:
- Meditite (Lv. 27): Fighting/Psychic type. Weak to Flying, Ghost, Fairy.
- Machoke (Lv. 27): Fighting type. Weak to Flying, Psychic, Fairy.
- Lucario (Lv. 30): Fighting/Steel type. Weak to Fighting, Ground, Fire. This is her ace Pokémon.
Strategy: Flying-type Pokémon (like Staraptor) and Psychic-type Pokémon (like Kadabra/Alakazam) are highly effective against Meditite and Machoke. Lucario, being Fighting/Steel, is a bit trickier. Fire and Ground-type moves work well against it. Be careful of its high Attack and Special Attack. After defeating Maylene, you'll receive the Cobble Badge, allowing you to use Fly outside of battle, and TM60 (Drain Punch).
