Trainer Rematches
Once you've conquered the Pokémon League and become the Champion of Sinnoh, your journey isn't over! Many trainers you've battled throughout your adventure are eager for a rematch, offering a fantastic way to level up your Pokémon, earn extra cash, and test your post-game strategies. These rematches often feature stronger Pokémon and evolved forms, providing a fresh challenge.
The Vs. Seeker: Your Rematch Tool
The key to initiating trainer rematches is the Vs. Seeker. You receive this invaluable Key Item from Dawn/Lucas (depending on your chosen gender) on Route 207 after defeating your rival for the first time in Oreburgh City. To use it:
- Stand in an area with trainers you've previously defeated.
- Open your Bag and select the Vs. Seeker from the Key Items pocket.
- Activate it.
If any trainers in the vicinity are ready for a rematch, an exclamation mark (!) will appear above their heads. If multiple trainers are ready, multiple marks will appear. If no marks appear, wait 100 steps and try again. The Vs. Seeker has a cooldown period, so be patient!
Maximizing Your Rematch Potential
- Equip the Amulet Coin: Before engaging in rematches, make sure a Pokémon in your party is holding an Amulet Coin. This item doubles the prize money you receive from battles, making rematches an excellent way to fund your post-game purchases (like TMs, healing items, or decorations for your Secret Base). You can find the Amulet Coin in the Amity Square in Hearthome City.
- Exp. Share: If you're looking to level up multiple Pokémon, activate the Exp. Share. This allows all Pokémon in your party to gain experience, even if they don't participate in battle.
- Heal Up: Trainer Pokémon in rematches are often significantly stronger than their initial encounters. Always ensure your team is fully healed and stocked with Potions, Super Potions, Hyper Potions, and Revives before challenging them.
- Strategic Type Matchups: Pay attention to the types of Pokémon your opponents use. Having a diverse team with good type coverage will give you a significant advantage.
Notable Rematch Locations and Trainers
While almost any trainer can offer a rematch, some areas are particularly lucrative due to the density of trainers or the strength of their Pokémon. Here are a few recommendations:
Route 205 (North)
- Trainers: Various Bug Catchers, Lass, and Youngster.
- Strategy: This route is excellent for early post-game leveling. Many trainers here specialize in Bug-type Pokémon, so Fire- and Flying-type moves will be very effective.
- Rewards: Good experience and decent prize money, especially with the Amulet Coin.
Route 210 (North - Foggy Area)
- Trainers: Ninja Boy, Bird Keeper, Ace Trainer.
- Strategy: The Ace Trainers here often have well-rounded teams. Be prepared for a variety of types. The Ninja Boy often uses Poison-types, so Ground-type moves are useful.
- Note: You'll need HM05 Defog to clear the fog for optimal visibility, though it's not strictly necessary for rematches.
Route 212 (South - Pokémon Mansion Area)
- Trainers: Rich Boy, Lady, Gentleman, Maid.
- Strategy: This area is a goldmine for money! The Rich Boys, Ladies, and Gentlemen offer significantly higher prize money than regular trainers. Their Pokémon are often well-trained but can be defeated with strong offensive strategies.
- Rewards: Excellent for earning money quickly.
Victory Road
- Trainers: Ace Trainers, Black Belts, Psychics, Dragon Tamers.
- Strategy: The trainers in Victory Road are among the strongest outside the Elite Four. Their Pokémon are high-leveled and often fully evolved. This is an ideal spot for serious post-game training. Be prepared for diverse teams and challenging battles.
- Rewards: High experience gains and substantial prize money.
By utilizing the Vs. Seeker and strategically engaging in rematches, you can continue to strengthen your team long after becoming the Champion, preparing you for any future challenges Sinnoh might throw your way!
