Route 213 and Pastoria City (Revisit)

Having successfully navigated the treacherous Great Marsh and earned your Fen Badge, it's time to revisit some familiar territory and push further west. This section details your journey through Route 213, a brief stop back in Pastoria City, and then your progression towards the next major destination.

Route 213: Coastal Exploration and Trainer Battles

Your journey begins by heading east from Pastoria City onto Route 213. This scenic coastal route, while seemingly straightforward, holds several hidden treasures and opportunities for trainer battles. Be prepared for a mix of land and water encounters.

Wild Pokémon Encounters (Route 213)

Keep an eye out for these Pokémon as you traverse the route:

  • Tall Grass: Chatot (Day/Morning), Buizel, Shellos (East Sea), Gastrodon (East Sea), Wingull, Pelipper, Floatzel (Rare)
  • Surfing: Tentacool, Tentacruel, Wingull, Pelipper
  • Fishing (Old Rod): Magikarp, Tentacool
  • Fishing (Good Rod): Magikarp, Tentacool, Finneon
  • Fishing (Super Rod): Gyarados, Tentacruel, Lumineon
Trainer Gauntlet (Route 213)

As you make your way along the beach and through the tall grass, several trainers will challenge you. These battles are excellent for gaining experience and honing your team's skills:

  • Sailor Damian: Located near the entrance from Pastoria City.
    • Wingull (Lv. 26)
    • Pelipper (Lv. 28)
    • Strategy: Electric or Rock-type moves are highly effective against both Flying/Water types.
  • Fisherman Andrew: Found fishing on the pier.
    • Gyarados (Lv. 27)
    • Gyarados (Lv. 27)
    • Strategy: Electric-type Pokémon will make short work of these Water/Flying threats. Be wary of Intimidate lowering your Attack.
  • Tuber Chelsea: A young trainer enjoying the beach.
    • Shellos (Lv. 26)
    • Gastrodon (Lv. 28)
    • Strategy: Grass-type moves are super effective against these Water/Ground Pokémon.
  • Swimmer Katelyn: Patrolling the waters just off the beach (requires Surf).
    • Golduck (Lv. 28)
    • Strategy: Electric or Grass-type moves are your best bet against this pure Water-type.
  • Swimmer Tony: Also in the water, near the eastern exit (requires Surf).
    • Tentacruel (Lv. 27)
    • Gyarados (Lv. 27)
    • Strategy: Electric-type moves are ideal. Ground-type moves can also work against Tentacruel, but beware of its Water typing.
Hidden Items and Collectibles (Route 213)

The sandy beaches of Route 213 are perfect for finding hidden items. use your Dowsing Machine (Pokétch App #8) to locate these valuable treasures:

  • Heart Scale: Located on the eastern side of the beach, near the rock formations. Often found by walking along the waterline.
  • Pearl: Hidden in the sand on the western side of the beach, closer to Pastoria City.
  • Big Pearl: Sometimes found in the same general area as the Pearl, though less common.
  • TM34 (Shock Wave): While not hidden, this TM is found in the small house on the route, given by a resident. This is a useful Electric-type special attack.
  • Full Restore: Found openly near the hotel entrance.

After navigating the trainers and collecting the items, you'll reach the Hotel Grand Lake. This hotel offers a place to rest your Pokémon, but more importantly, it's a landmark before looping back to Pastoria City.

Pastoria City (Brief Revisit)

From the eastern end of Route 213, you'll naturally loop back into Pastoria City. At this point, you've likely healed your Pokémon and perhaps even stocked up on supplies. Your next objective is to head west from Pastoria City, onto Route 212.

Important: To proceed west on Route 212, you will need to use Surf. If you haven't already, ensure you have a Pokémon in your party that knows this HM. The western portion of Route 212 is largely water-based, requiring you to traverse it by surfing.

Route 212 (Western Side) and Beyond

As you enter the western side of Route 212, prepare for more water-based trainer battles. The route here is a series of interconnected ponds and narrow land paths.

Wild Pokémon Encounters (Route 212 - Western Water)
  • Surfing: Tentacool, Tentacruel, Wingull, Pelipper, Buizel, Floatzel
  • Fishing (Old Rod): Magikarp, Tentacool
  • Fishing (Good Rod): Magikarp, Tentacool, Finneon
  • Fishing (Super Rod): Gyarados, Tentacruel, Lumineon
Trainer Gauntlet (Route 212 - Western Water)

The water here is patrolled by several Swimmers:

  • Swimmer Nicole:
    • Buizel (Lv. 27)
    • Wingull (Lv. 27)
    • Strategy: Electric-type moves are effective against both. Grass-type moves also work well against Buizel.
  • Swimmer Evan:
    • Gyarados (Lv. 28)
    • Strategy: A single strong Electric-type attack should suffice.
  • Swimmer Bethany:
    • Tentacool (Lv. 26)
    • Tentacruel (Lv. 28)
    • Strategy: Electric or Ground-type moves are effective.

Continue surfing west, navigating around the small islands and trainers. This watery expanse will eventually lead you to the western side of Route 210, a crucial step towards your next Gym challenge in Celestic Town.
