Item Locations & Obtaining Methods
Navigating the vast region of Hoenn means you'll constantly be on the lookout for useful items. This section details where to find crucial items, from essential healing supplies to rare evolutionary stones and powerful Technical Machines (TMs). Knowing these locations will give you a significant edge in your journey to become the Pokémon Champion!
Key Story Progression Items
- Running Shoes: Obtained early in Littleroot Town. Your mother will give them to you after you've helped Professor Birch. Essential for speeding up travel on foot.
- PokéNav: Received from Mr. Stone in Rustboro City after delivering the Letter to Steven Stone in Granite Cave. This device is invaluable for checking the map, trainer's eyes, and condition of your Pokémon.
- Bicycle: Choose between the Mach Bike or Acro Bike at Rydel's Cycles in Mauville City. The Mach Bike is faster for long distances and climbing muddy slopes, while the Acro Bike allows for precise maneuvers like riding on narrow rails and hopping ledges. You can eventually obtain both by showing the shop owner a Pokémon with the Mach Bike, then a Pokémon with the Acro Bike, and finally talking to him again.
- Itemfinder: Given by a scientist in the Devon Corporation building in Rustboro City after you've completed the task of delivering the Letter to Steven. Use this to locate hidden items on the ground.
- Old Rod: Received from a fisherman in Dewford Town. Allows you to fish for low-level Water-type Pokémon.
- Good Rod: Obtained from a fisherman on Route 118, east of Mauville City. Catches a wider variety of Water-type Pokémon than the Old Rod.
- Super Rod: Found in a house in Mossdeep City. The best fishing rod, capable of hooking rare and powerful Water-type Pokémon.
- HM01 (Cut): Given by the Cut Master in a house in Rustboro City after defeating Roxanne. Required to clear small trees blocking paths.
- HM02 (Fly): Found in a house on Route 119. Allows you to instantly travel to previously visited towns and cities.
- HM03 (Surf): Given by Wally's father in Petalburg City after defeating Norman. Essential for traversing water bodies.
- HM04 (Strength): Obtained from a woman in Rusturf Tunnel after helping her find her glasses. Used to push large boulders.
- HM05 (Flash): Found in Granite Cave. Illuminates dark caves.
- HM06 (Rock Smash): Given by a man in Mauville City. Breaks small rocks blocking paths.
- HM07 (Waterfall): Found in Cave of Origin. Allows you to climb waterfalls.
- HM08 (Dive): Received from Steven Stone in Mossdeep City after defeating Tate & Liza. Essential for exploring underwater routes.
Healing & Status Items
- Potions (Various): Can be purchased at any Poké Mart. Also found as hidden items or visible items on various routes (e.g., a Potion is near your house in Littleroot Town).
- Antidote: Purchased at Poké Marts. A free one can be found on Route 102.
- Paralyze Heal: Purchased at Poké Marts. A free one is located on Route 104.
- Awakening: Purchased at Poké Marts. Find one on Route 116.
- Burn Heal: Purchased at Poké Marts. One can be found in Petalburg Woods.
- Ice Heal: Purchased at Poké Marts. A free one is on Route 111.
- Full Restore: Purchased at later-game Poké Marts. Often found as rare items in dungeons or as rewards.
- Revive: Purchased at later-game Poké Marts. Also found in various locations, such as Petalburg City (hidden).
- Max Revive: Rare find, usually in challenging areas or as a reward. One is in the Abandoned Ship.

- Water Stone:
- Route 124: Requires Dive. Explore the underwater areas.
- Abandoned Ship: Requires Dive. Located in one of the cabins.
- Fire Stone:
- Fiery Path: Requires Strength. Push the boulder to access it.
- Jagged Pass: Found as a hidden item near the top.
- Leaf Stone:
- Route 119: Requires Surf and Waterfall. Explore the upper areas.
- Fortree City: Hidden item near the Gym.
- Thunder Stone:
- New Mauville: Requires Surf. Located in the generator room.
- Route 118: Hidden item near the fisherman.
- Moon Stone:
- Meteor Falls: Found on the first floor.
- Mt. Pyre: Upper levels.
- Sun Stone:
- Mossdeep City: Given by a man in a house.
- Space Center: Hidden item.
- Everstone: Held by wild Geodude (50% chance) and Roggenrola (50% chance). Use a Pokémon with Compound Eyes (e.g., Nincada) at the front of your party to increase the chance of wild Pokémon holding items.
- Metal Coat: Held by wild Magnemite (5% chance) and Skarmory (5% chance).
- Dragon Scale: Held by wild Horsea (5% chance) and Seadra (5% chance). Also found in the Abandoned Ship.
- King's Rock: Held by wild Poliwhirl (5% chance) and Hariyama (5% chance). Also found in Mossdeep City.
- Up-Grade: Post-game, trade with a specific NPC.
- Dubious Disc: Post-game, trade with a specific NPC.
Technical Machines (TMs)
TMs are single-use items that teach a Pokémon a specific move. Choose wisely!
- TM01 (Focus Punch): Route 115, requires Surf.

- Quick Claw: Route 113, given by a man.
- BrightPowder: Battle Frontier, 48 BP.
- White Herb: Battle Frontier, 32 BP.
- Macho Brace: Winona's Gym, after defeating her.
- Exp. Share: Given by Mr. Stone in Rustboro City after delivering the Letter to Steven.
- Amulet Coin: Obtained from your mother in Littleroot Town after defeating your father, Norman. Doubles prize money when held by a Pokémon in battle.
- Soothe Bell: Given by a woman in the Pokémon Fan Club in Verdanturf Town if your lead Pokémon has high happiness.
Rare Candies & Vitamins
- Rare Candy: Scattered throughout Hoenn in various locations (e.g., Route 110, Route 114, Mt. Pyre). Can also be won at the Battle Frontier.
- HP Up, Protein, Iron, Calcium, Zinc, Carbos: Can be purchased at the Lilycove Department Store. Also found as hidden items or visible items on various routes.
