Post-Game Legendary Encounters
Congratulations, Champion! The journey doesn't end after defeating the Elite Four. Hoenn is still teeming with powerful Legendary Pokémon waiting to be discovered and caught. This section will guide you through the intricate steps required to encounter and capture these elusive creatures. Be prepared for some challenging puzzles and battles!
Preparation for Legendary Hunts
Before embarking on your legendary quest, ensure you have the following:
- Strong Team: A team of high-level Pokémon (Level 70+) is recommended. Include Pokémon with status-inflicting moves (e.g., Sleep Powder, Thunder Wave) and False Swipe to safely reduce HP.
- Catching Supplies: Stock up on plenty of Ultra Balls, Timer Balls, and Dusk Balls (if hunting at night or in caves). Master Balls are ideal for emergencies but should be used sparingly.
- Key HMs: You'll need access to all HMs, especially Surf, Dive, Strength, Rock Smash, and Flash.
- Specific Items: Some legendaries require unique items or specific Pokémon in your party.
The Legendary Golem Trio: Regirock, Regice, and Registeel
The ancient titans Regirock, Regice, and Registeel are sealed away and require a specific ritual to awaken. This quest begins in the Sealed Chamber.
1. Unlocking the Sealed Chamber
- Fly to Pacifidlog Town: This is your starting point.
- Surf West: From Pacifidlog Town, surf west along Route 134. You'll encounter strong currents.
- Locate the Dive Spot: Keep an eye out for a dark patch of water, indicating a Dive spot. It's usually in the middle of the route, slightly south.
- Dive Down: Use HM08 Dive to descend into the underwater trench.
- Navigate the Underwater Cave: Follow the path until you find an inscription.
- Read the Braille: Approach the inscription and press 'A'. It will say "GO UP HERE."
- Ascend: Use Dive again to surface into the Sealed Chamber.
- The First Braille Puzzle: Inside the chamber, walk to the back wall and read the Braille inscription. It translates to "DIG HERE."
- Use Dig: Stand directly in front of the inscription and use the HM06 Dig. This will open a new doorway.
- The Second Braille Puzzle: Enter the newly opened room. Walk to the back wall and read the Braille. It translates to "FIRST, RELICANTH. LAST, WAILORD."
- Party Arrangement: Place a Wailord in the first slot of your party and a Relicanth in the last slot. The order is crucial!
- Read Again: Re-read the Braille inscription with Wailord and Relicanth in the correct positions. You will hear a rumble, indicating the doors to the three Legendary Golems have opened across Hoenn.
2. Regirock
Regirock, the Rock Peak Pokémon, awaits in the Desert Ruins.
- Fly to Mauville City: Head north to Route 111.
- Enter the Desert: Use the Mach Bike to cross the desert quickly.
- Locate the Desert Ruins: The ruins are in the southern part of the desert.
- Braille Puzzle: Inside, read the Braille inscription. It translates to "LEFT, LEFT, DOWN, DOWN, THEN USE ROCK SMASH."
- Execute the Steps: From the inscription, take two steps left, then two steps down.
- Use Rock Smash: Stand on the correct tile and use HM06 Rock Smash. The door to Regirock will open.
- Encounter Regirock: Interact with the statue to battle Level 40 Regirock.
Strategy: Regirock is a pure Rock-type. Grass, Water, Fighting, Ground, and Steel-type moves are super effective. Paralyze or put it to sleep, then chip away its HP with False Swipe. Be wary of its high defenses.
3. Regice
Regice, the Iceberg Pokémon, is found in the Island Cave.
- Fly to Pacifidlog Town: Surf west to Route 105.
- Locate the Island Cave: The cave is on a small island in the middle of Route 105.
- Braille Puzzle: Inside, read the Braille inscription. It translates to "STOP AND WAIT. WAIT FOR TWO MINUTES. THEN USE STRENGTH."
- Execute the Steps: Stand in front of the inscription and do not move for exactly two real-time minutes.
- Use Strength: After two minutes, use HM04 Strength. The door to Regice will open.
- Encounter Regice: Interact with the statue to battle Level 40 Regice.
Strategy: Regice is a pure Ice-type. Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel-type moves are super effective. Its Special Defense is incredibly high. Focus on physical attacks if possible, and use status conditions to aid capture.
4. Registeel
Registeel, the Iron Pokémon, resides in the Ancient Tomb.
- Fly to Fortree City: Head west to Route 120.
- Locate the Ancient Tomb: The tomb is hidden within the tall grass on Route 120, just south of the bridge where you first met Steven Stone.
- Braille Puzzle: Inside, read the Braille inscription. It translates to "WITH NEW TIME, NEW HOPE AND LOVE. FLY UP HIGH."
- Execute the Steps: Stand in the center of the room.
- Use Fly: Use HM02 Fly. The door to Registeel will open.
- Encounter Registeel: Interact with the statue to battle Level 40 Registeel.
Strategy: Registeel is a pure Steel-type. Fire, Fighting, and Ground-type moves are super effective. It boasts high Defense and Special Defense. Like its brethren, status conditions and False Swipe are your best friends.
Latias and Latios: The Roaming Duo
After defeating the Elite Four, you'll return home to Littleroot Town. Your mother will ask you about a colored Pokémon she saw on TV. Your choice determines which Eon Pokémon will roam Hoenn.
- Red: If you choose "Red," Latias will roam Hoenn.
- Blue: If you choose "Blue," Latios will roam Hoenn.
The other Eon Pokémon can only be obtained via a special event item (Eon Ticket) or trading from Ruby/Sapphire.
Finding Them:
- Check the Pokénav: Once you've made your choice, open your Pokénav and go to the "Map" section. You'll see a small Pokémon icon moving around the map. This indicates the current location of the roaming legendary.
- Fly and Chase: Fly to a city or town near the legendary's current location.
- Enter and Exit Routes: The legendary will move each time you enter or exit a route, or fly to a new location. The trick is to position yourself on a route adjacent to its current location, then repeatedly enter and exit a building (like a Pokémon Center) until it moves onto your route.
- Encounter: Once it's on your route, quickly run into the grass or surf to trigger an encounter.
Strategy: Both Latias and Latios are Level 40 and will attempt to flee on the first turn. Use a Pokémon with Mean Look, Arena Trap, or Shadow Tag to prevent their escape. Alternatively, use a Quick Ball on the first turn. If they flee, their HP and any status conditions inflicted will carry over to the next encounter, making repeated encounters easier.
