Pokéblocks
Pokéblocks are special treats created from Berries that enhance your Pokémon's Contest stats: Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Smartness, and Toughness. These stats are crucial for excelling in Pokémon Contests held in Lilycove City. Understanding how to make and use Pokéblocks effectively can give your Pokémon a significant edge.
The Berry Blender
To create Pokéblocks, you'll need to use a Berry Blender. You can find Berry Blenders in the following locations:
- Slateport City: Inside the Contest Hall.
- Lilycove City: Inside the Contest Hall.
- Verdanturf Town: Inside the Contest Hall.
- Fallarbor Town: Inside the Contest Hall.
Each Berry Blender allows up to four players to participate. If you're playing solo, NPCs will join you. The goal is to press 'A' when the arrow aligns with your Berry's slot as it spins around the blender. The faster and more accurately you press 'A', the higher the RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) of the blender, resulting in better quality Pokéblocks.
Pokéblock Flavors and Effects
Each Berry has a specific flavor profile, which determines the type of Pokéblock it produces and which Contest stat it affects. There are five primary flavors, each corresponding to a Contest stat:
- Spicy (Red): Increases Coolness.
- Dry (Blue): Increases Beauty.
- Sweet (Pink): Increases Cuteness.
- Bitter (Green): Increases Smartness.
- Sour (Yellow): Increases Toughness.
Some Berries have multiple flavors, creating Pokéblocks that boost more than one stat. The "Smoothness" of a Pokéblock indicates how many more Pokéblocks a Pokémon can eat. A lower Smoothness value means your Pokémon can consume more Pokéblocks before becoming full.
Optimizing Pokéblock Creation
To create high-quality Pokéblocks, consider these strategies:
- Berry Selection: Choose Berries with high flavor values for the Contest stat you want to boost. For example, a Cheri Berry has 10 Spicy, making it good for Coolness. A Chesto Berry has 10 Dry, ideal for Beauty.
- RPM Matters: Aim for high RPMs during blending. The higher the RPM, the higher the "Level" of the Pokéblock, meaning it will provide a greater stat boost. For instance, a Cheri Berry blended at a high RPM (>= 166.5) can yield a Level 59 Pokéblock, while a lower RPM (< 159.84) might only result in a Level 57.
- NPC Participation: When blending with NPCs, observe their Berry choices. If you're aiming for a specific flavor, try to blend with NPCs who also contribute Berries of that flavor to maximize the desired stat.
- Master vs. Individual Flavors: The "Master Flavor Levels" indicate the maximum potential of a Pokéblock when all participants contribute to that flavor. "1st/2nd/3rd NPCs Flavor Levels" show the individual contributions.
Pokémon Natures and Pokéblock Preferences
A Pokémon's Nature plays a significant role in how effectively it consumes Pokéblocks. Each Nature prefers a certain flavor and dislikes another:
- Preferred Flavor: If a Pokéblock's max flavor matches a Pokémon's preferred flavor (e.g., a Lonely Nature Pokémon prefers Spicy), it will eat the Pokéblock "Happily." This results in a 10% increase (rounded to the nearest integer) in the stat gain from that flavor.
- Disliked Flavor: If a Pokéblock's max flavor matches a Pokémon's disliked flavor, or if the preferred flavor is insufficient or absent, the Pokémon will eat it "Disdainfully." This results in a 10% decrease (rounded to the nearest integer) in the stat gain from that flavor.
For example, a Cheri Berry, which is primarily Spicy, would be eaten happily by a Lonely (+Atk, -Def) or Adamant (+Atk, -Sp.Atk) Nature Pokémon, as they prefer Spicy flavors. Conversely, a Pokémon with a Nature that dislikes Spicy (like Modest or Timid) would eat it disdainfully.
Key Berries for Pokéblocks (Examples)
Here are a few examples of common Berries and their primary flavor profiles:
| Berry Name | Spicy | Dry | Sweet | Bitter | Sour | Smoothness | Primary Use (Contest Stat) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cheri Berry | 10 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 25 | Coolness |
| Chesto Berry | 0 | 10 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 25 | Beauty |
| Pecha Berry | 0 | 0 | 10 | 0 | 0 | 25 | Cuteness |
| Rawst Berry | 0 | 0 | 0 | 10 | 0 | 25 | Smartness |
| Aspear Berry | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 10 | 25 | Toughness |
For more advanced Pokéblock creation, consider using Berries with higher base flavor values or those that combine multiple desirable flavors, such as the Pamtre Berry (Dry, Bitter) for Beauty and Smartness, or the Spelon Berry (Spicy, Sour) for Coolness and Toughness. Experiment with different Berry combinations and blending techniques to create the perfect Pokéblocks for your Contest champions!
