TMs (Technical Machines) teach a Pokémon a specific move once. HMs (Hidden Machines) also teach moves, but they can be used infinitely and are often required to progress through the game (e.g., Cut, Fly, Surf, Strength, Flash, Rock Smash, Waterfall). TMs are found throughout the world, given by Gym Leaders, or purchased at the Game Corner. HMs are usually given by NPCs after specific story events. Choose carefully which Pokémon learns which HM, as they cannot be forgotten easily.
