Mission 16, "The Trial of Lake Acuity," is a pivotal moment in your journey through Hisui, as it involves confronting one of the legendary Lake Guardians. This mission takes you to the frigid northern reaches of the Alabaster Icelands and presents a unique challenge that tests your observational skills and your ability to handle a powerful Psychic-type Pokémon.
Your objective in Mission 16 is to travel to Lake Acuity, located in the Alabaster Icelands, and investigate the unusual energy readings. Upon reaching the lake, you will find that it is shrouded in an eerie calm, hinting at the presence of a powerful Pokémon. Professor Laventon will be there, and he will inform you that the disturbance is caused by Uxie, the Pokémon of knowledge.
The trial at Lake Acuity is not a direct battle at first. Instead, you must prove your worth to Uxie by demonstrating your ability to perceive truth amidst illusion. Uxie will employ its psychic powers to create a series of illusions and test your focus. You will need to throw balms at Uxie while it is attempting to evade you and attack you with its psychic abilities. This phase requires precision and quick reflexes. Uxie will teleport around the lake, and you'll need to track its movements and aim your balms accurately.
Uxie's attacks can be disorienting. It may unleash psychic waves that obscure your vision or cause status effects. It's crucial to maintain your composure and focus on hitting Uxie. If you miss too many balms or get hit too frequently, you may need to restart the sequence. The goal is to hit Uxie a specific number of times to break its concentration and make it vulnerable.
Once you have successfully struck Uxie enough times with your balms, it will allow you to engage it in a traditional Pokémon battle. Uxie is a Legendary Psychic-type Pokémon with high Special Defense and Special Attack. It's known for its ability to learn moves that can inflict status conditions like Confusion or Sleep, and powerful offensive psychic attacks. To effectively battle Uxie, consider bringing Pokémon that have a type advantage or resistance to Psychic-type moves. Dark-type Pokémon are immune to Psychic attacks and are excellent choices. Alternatively, Pokémon that can inflict status conditions like Paralysis or Poison can disrupt Uxie's strategy. Having Pokémon with strong physical attacks can also be beneficial, as Uxie's Defense stat is lower than its Special Defense.
The battle against Uxie can be challenging, so be prepared with a well-balanced team and plenty of healing items. If you happen to fail the capture attempt, don't worry. Uxie, like the other Lake Guardians, will reappear at Lake Acuity after a certain amount of time has passed, allowing you to try again. Successfully completing "The Trial of Lake Acuity" is a major step towards understanding the celestial phenomenon and the role of the Legendary Pokémon in Hisui.
