Pokedex
The Pokedex is your essential tool for tracking all the Pokémon you've encountered and caught across the Kanto region. Completing it is one of the most rewarding challenges in Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee!
How to Obtain the Pokedex
Your journey with the Pokedex begins very early in the game:
- After selecting your starter Pokémon (Pikachu or Eevee) in Pallet Town.
- Head north onto Route 1.
- Continue to Viridian City.
- Upon entering Viridian City, you'll encounter Professor Oak.
- Professor Oak will officially entrust you with the Pokedex, along with 5 Poke Balls to start your catching adventure.
Pokedex Features and Navigation
Once you have the Pokedex, you can access it anytime from your in-game menu. Here's what you'll find:
- Pokémon Entries: Each entry provides detailed information about a Pokémon, including its type, height, weight, and a brief description.
- Habitat Information: For Pokémon you've caught, the Pokedex will show you which routes and areas they can be found in. This is incredibly useful for tracking down specific species.
- Shiny Form Tracking: The Pokedex will also indicate if you've encountered or caught the shiny variant of a Pokémon.
- "Seen" vs. "Caught":
- A Pokémon is marked as "Seen" if you've encountered it in the wild, battled a trainer with it, or had it appear in a cutscene.
- A Pokémon is marked as "Caught" once you successfully capture it using a Poke Ball.
Strategies for Completing the Pokedex
Completing the Kanto Pokedex (151 Pokémon, plus Meltan and Melmetal) requires dedication. Here are some key strategies:
1. Catch Everything!
The most straightforward way to fill your Pokedex is to catch every unique Pokémon you encounter. Don't just catch one; catching multiples can help with Candy farming and finding good IVs.
2. Explore Every Location Thoroughly
Different Pokémon appear in different areas. visit every patch of grass, cave, and body of water. Some Pokémon are exclusive to specific routes:
- Route 1: Pidgey, Rattata.
- Viridian Forest: Caterpie, Metapod, Weedle, Kakuna, Pikachu.
- Mt. Moon: Zubat, Paras, Geodude, Clefairy.
- Cerulean Cave (Post-Game): Mewtwo, Chansey, Ditto, and many rare Pokémon.
3. Version Exclusives
Remember that Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee have version-exclusive Pokémon. To complete your Pokedex, you'll need to trade with a player who owns the opposite version.
- Let's Go Pikachu Exclusives: Sandshrew, Sandslash, Oddish, Gloom, Vileplume, Growlithe, Arcanine, Mankey, Primeape, Grimer, Muk, Scyther.
- Let's Go Eevee Exclusives: Vulpix, Ninetales, Meowth, Persian, Psyduck, Golduck, Bellsprout, Weepinbell, Victreebel, Koffing, Weezing, Pinsir.
4. Evolution Methods
Many Pokémon evolve, and you'll need to obtain their evolved forms to complete the Pokedex. Pay attention to:
- Level-Up Evolutions: Most Pokémon evolve by reaching a certain level.
- Stone Evolutions: Some Pokémon require Evolution Stones. For example, Vulpix evolves into Ninetales with a Fire Stone, and Pikachu evolves into Raichu with a Thunder Stone. These stones can often be found in various locations or purchased from the Celadon Department Store.
- Trade Evolutions: Certain Pokémon only evolve when traded between players. These include Kadabra (into Alakazam), Machoke (into Machamp), Haunter (into Gengar), and Graveler (into Golem).
5. Legendary and Mythical Pokémon
Don't forget the powerful Legendary Pokémon and the elusive Mythical Pokémon:
- Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres: These can be found in specific locations after progressing through the story. Articuno is in the Seafoam Islands, Zapdos in the Power Plant, and Moltres in Victory Road.
- Mewtwo: Found in Cerulean Cave after becoming the Champion.
- Mew: Only obtainable via the Poke Ball Plus accessory.
- Meltan & Melmetal: These unique Pokémon are obtained by linking your game with Pokémon GO. You'll need to transfer a Pokémon from Let's Go to GO to receive a Mystery Box, which spawns Meltan in GO. You then transfer Meltan from GO to Let's Go. Melmetal is evolved from Meltan in Pokémon GO.
6. Chain Combos for Rare Spawns
Building a Catch Combo by catching the same species repeatedly increases the chances of rare Pokémon appearing, including shiny Pokémon and Pokémon with better stats. This is crucial for finding some of the rarer spawns like Chansey or Snorlax.
Good luck on your quest to become a Pokémon Master by completing your Pokedex!
While Pokemon Emerald allowed players to track nearly 400 species across Hoenn, these titles focus exclusively on the original 151 creatures found within the classic Kanto region.
While the Pokedex in these titles focuses on traditional capture mechanics, it lacks the specialized Browser functionality found in Pokémon Ranger for documenting unique field abilities.
