Shiny Hunting
The allure of finding Shiny Pokémon, which are rare variants distinguished by their alternate color palettes, is a significant draw for many players in Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee. The game mechanics are designed to make these encounters more achievable than in previous titles. The primary method for increasing your chances of encountering a Shiny Pokémon is by building and maintaining a Catch Combo. This involves catching the same species of Pokémon consecutively without interruption.
The higher your Catch Combo reaches, the greater the odds of a Shiny Pokémon appearing. A Catch Combo of 31 or more of the same species provides a substantial boost to the shiny odds, reaching the maximum possible rate for wild encounters. To further enhance these odds, the use of Lure items is highly beneficial. Lures increase the spawn rate of Pokémon, meaning more Pokémon will appear in a given area, thus providing more opportunities to encounter a shiny variant. Additionally, obtaining the Shiny Charm, a special item awarded after completing the Kanto Pokédex, further increases the base odds of finding Shiny Pokémon, stacking with the benefits of a Catch Combo and Lure.
When actively shiny hunting, it's crucial to understand how to maintain your Catch Combo. Running away from a Pokémon, catching a different species, or even failing to catch a shiny Pokémon can break the combo. Therefore, once you have a high combo established, it's often recommended to use Great Balls or Ultra Balls to ensure a successful catch. The visual cue for a Shiny Pokémon is its altered coloration, which is immediately apparent when it appears on the overworld map or in battle. Patience and a methodical approach, focusing on maintaining a high Catch Combo and utilizing Lures, are the keys to successfully finding these coveted alternate-colored Pokémon. The Shiny Charm, while a late-game reward, significantly amplifies these efforts once obtained.
