Departing from Cerulean City, your path south will lead you onto Route 5. This route is populated with a number of trainers, offering opportunities to gain experience and refine your battling strategies. As you progress, you will find that the direct route to Saffron City is blocked. To circumvent this obstruction and reach your destination, you will need to utilize the Underground Path that connects Route 5 with Route 6.

The Underground Path is a simple, linear tunnel designed for efficient travel between these two routes. It is a safe passage, free from any wild Pokémon encounters, allowing you to focus solely on moving from one point to the next. Upon exiting the Underground Path, you will find yourself on Route 6. This route continues the journey south, and like Route 5, it is also home to various trainers who will challenge you. The terrain of Route 6 is distinct, and it serves as the final stretch before you can make your way into the vibrant city of Saffron City.

When traversing Route 5 and Route 6, be prepared for trainer battles. These routes are excellent for leveling up your Pokémon and earning money. Ensure your Pokémon are healed before entering the Underground Path, as there will be no opportunity to do so within the tunnel itself. Upon emerging onto Route 6, continue to engage with trainers to maximize your experience gains. The path to Saffron City is now more accessible, but the routes leading to it are still filled with potential encounters. Carefully manage your resources, such as Poké Balls and healing items, as you prepare for the challenges that await in Saffron City, including the significant Team Rocket presence at Silph Co.
