Save Data & Erasure
Understanding how to manage your save data in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire is crucial, whether you're looking to preserve your progress or start a brand new adventure. Unlike some modern games, ORAS utilizes a single save slot per game cartridge, meaning any new game will overwrite your previous progress. There is no in-game option to simply "start a new game" without erasing your existing save.
Saving Your Game
To save your progress during gameplay, follow these simple steps:
- Press the X Button to open the in-game menu.
- Navigate to the bottom-right corner of the touch screen or use the D-Pad/Circle Pad to highlight the "Save" option.
- Press the A Button to select "Save."
- A confirmation prompt will appear asking, "Would you like to save the game?" Select "Yes" and press A Button again.
- The game will display "Saving... Do not turn off the power." Wait for this message to disappear completely before closing your 3DS or removing the game cartridge. Interrupting the save process can corrupt your data.
Pro Tip: Always save before attempting a difficult battle, trading Pokémon, or using a Master Ball, just in case things don't go as planned!
Erasing Your Save Data
If you wish to start a completely fresh game, perhaps to choose a different starter Pokémon, experience the story again, or try a Nuzlocke challenge, you will need to erase your existing save file. This process is irreversible, so ensure you are absolutely certain before proceeding.
Here's how to erase your save data:
- From the 3DS Home Menu, launch Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire.
- When the game's title screen appears (the screen showing Groudon/Kyogre and the "Press START" prompt), do NOT press START.
- Instead, simultaneously press and hold the following three buttons: Up on the D-Pad + B Button + X Button.
- Hold these buttons down for a few seconds.
- A prompt will appear asking, "Do you want to delete all saved data?" Select "Yes".
- A second confirmation will appear, stating, "All saved data will be lost. Are you sure you want to delete it?" Again, select "Yes".
- The game will then proceed to erase your save data. Once complete, you will be taken to the game's introductory sequence, allowing you to begin a new adventure.
Important Note: Erasing your save data will permanently delete all progress, including your Pokémon collection, items, Pokedex data, and battle records. There is no way to recover this data once it has been erased.
