After dealing with Team Aqua/Magma at Mt. Chimney and traversing Jagged Pass, you'll arrive in Lavaridge Town, home to the fourth Gym Leader, Flannery. She specializes in Fire-type Pokémon. Her team includes a Slugma, a Numel, and a Torkoal. Fire-type Pokémon are weak to Water, Ground, and Rock-type moves. This makes Water-type Pokémon like Marshtomp/Swampert (Mudkip's evolutions) or a caught Tentacool/Wingull/Pelipper excellent choices. Ground-types like Geodude/Graveler are also very effective. If you chose Torchic, its Fire/Fighting typing will be a disadvantage here, so rely on other team members. Level your Pokémon to around level 26-28. Defeating Flannery earns you the Heat Badge, allowing you to use HM04 Strength outside of battle, and TM50 Overheat.
