After navigating through Petalburg Woods and Rustboro City, you'll reach the first Gym Leader, Roxanne. She specializes in Rock-type Pokémon. Her team consists of a Geodude and a Nosepass. Rock-type Pokémon are weak to Water and Grass-type moves, making Mudkip and Treecko excellent choices for this battle. If you chose Torchic, you'll need to rely on other Pokémon you've caught, such as a Lotad (Route 102, Alpha Sapphire) or a Wingull (Route 103, 104). Leveling up your Pokémon to around level 12-14 will give you a good advantage. Defeating Roxanne will earn you the Stone Badge, allowing you to use HM01 Cut outside of battle, and TM39 Rock Tomb.
