Gym Leader Strategies

Roark (Oreburgh City - Rock Type)

  • Key Pokémon: Cranidos (High Attack)
  • Weaknesses: Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, Steel
  • Strategy: Piplup and Turtwig make this easy. Chimchar users should catch a Budew or Psyduck. Focus on super-effective moves.

Gardenia (Eterna City - Grass Type)

  • Key Pokémon: Roserade (High Special Attack, can Poison)
  • Weaknesses: Fire, Flying, Ice, Poison, Bug
  • Strategy: Chimchar is excellent. Starly/Staravia is also strong. Be wary of Roserade's Sludge Bomb.

Maylene (Veilstone City - Fighting Type)

  • Key Pokémon: Lucario (Fighting/Steel, Aura Sphere)
  • Weaknesses: Flying, Psychic
  • Strategy: Staraptor is a great choice. Abra/Kadabra can sweep. Lucario's Steel typing makes it resistant to Flying, so Psychic is preferred.

Crasher Wake (Pastoria City - Water Type)

  • Key Pokémon: Floatzel (Fast, strong attacks), Quagsire (Water/Ground, Electric immunity)
  • Weaknesses: Grass, Electric
  • Strategy: Torterra is fantastic. Luxray or other Electric-types are great, but avoid using them on Quagsire.

Byron (Canalave City - Steel Type)

  • Key Pokémon: Bastiodon (High Defenses), Steelix (High Defense)
  • Weaknesses: Fire, Fighting, Ground
  • Strategy: Infernape shines here. Lucario or Machamp are also excellent. Bronzor has Levitate, so Ground moves won't hit it.

Candice (Snowpoint City - Ice Type)

  • Key Pokémon: Abomasnow (Sets up Hail), Froslass (Fast, can cause status)
  • Weaknesses: Fire, Fighting, Rock, Steel
  • Strategy: Infernape is still strong. Lucario, Machamp, or a strong Rock-type like Rampardos are good.

Volkner (Sunyshore City - Electric Type)

  • Key Pokémon: Electivire (High Attack), Jolteon (Very Fast)
  • Weaknesses: Ground
  • Strategy: Garchomp or Torterra are ideal. Donphan or Hippowdon are also good choices.

Always over-level your Pokémon by a few levels if you're struggling, and use X-Items (X Attack, X Defense, etc.) to boost your stats in battle!
