Move Tutors & Move Deleter
As you journey through the Sinnoh region, you'll encounter various NPCs who can help your Pokémon learn new moves or forget old ones. These services are invaluable for optimizing your team's battle strategies and adapting to different challenges. Understanding where to find these key characters and what they offer is crucial for any aspiring Pokémon Champion.
Move Tutors
Move Tutors are special NPCs who can teach your Pokémon specific moves, often for a price or in exchange for certain items. Unlike TMs, these moves can sometimes be unique or otherwise unavailable through leveling up. Pokémon Platinum features several Move Tutors scattered across the region, each specializing in different types of moves.
The Veilstone City Move Tutor (Elemental Punches)
- Location: Veilstone City, inside the house directly to the right of the Department Store.
- Cost: Shards.
- Moves Offered:
- Fire Punch: Requires 2 Red Shards, 1 Blue Shard, 1 Green Shard.
- Ice Punch: Requires 2 Blue Shards, 1 Red Shard, 1 Green Shard.
- ThunderPunch: Requires 2 Yellow Shards, 1 Red Shard, 1 Green Shard.
- Strategy: Shards can be found by digging in the Underground. Focus on collecting the specific colors you need for the desired elemental punch. These moves are excellent for Pokémon with high Attack stats that lack type coverage.
The Pastoria City Move Tutor (Pledge Moves)
- Location: Pastoria City, inside the house at the very top-right corner of the city.
- Cost: Shards.
- Moves Offered:

- Frenzy Plant: Requires 2 Green Shards, 1 Red Shard, 1 Blue Shard. (Only for fully evolved Grass-type starter Pokémon)
- Hydro Cannon: Requires 2 Blue Shards, 1 Red Shard, 1 Green Shard. (Only for fully evolved Water-type starter Pokémon)
- Strategy: These powerful moves are exclusive to the final evolutions of the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh starter Pokémon. If you've transferred or obtained these Pokémon, this tutor can give them a significant boost. Stock up on the required Shards from the Underground.

- Strategy: Earning BP involves competing in the Battle Frontier facilities (Battle Tower, Battle Factory, Battle Arcade, Battle Castle, Battle Hall). This is an endgame activity, but the moves offered are often competitively viable and can greatly enhance your Pokémon's movesets. Prioritize moves that cover your Pokémon's weaknesses or boost their primary attacking stats.
Move Deleter
The Move Deleter is a crucial NPC who can help your Pokémon forget any move, including HM moves. This is particularly useful for Pokémon that have learned an HM move that you no longer need, as HM moves cannot be forgotten through normal means (e.g., learning a new move at level up).
The Canalave City Move Deleter
- Location: Canalave City, inside the house directly to the left of the Pokémon Center.
- Cost: Free.
- Service: Allows any Pokémon to forget any move, including HM moves.
- Strategy: Don't hesitate to use the Move Deleter if you need to free up a move slot for a more powerful or strategically important move. This is especially important for HM slaves (Pokémon used solely for HMs) once you no longer need them to navigate the region, allowing you to re-spec them for battle or simply remove unwanted moves.
