The UI in Pokémon Platinum is intuitive but has several key elements you'll interact with constantly. Understanding them will make your journey much smoother.

Overworld Screen:
- Top Screen: Displays the main game world, your character, NPCs, and wild Pokémon encounters.
- Bottom Screen: Primarily used for the Pokétch, a multi-functional device that displays various apps like a digital watch, calculator, and more. You can cycle through Pokétch apps using the green button on the right side of the bottom screen.
Main Menu (X Button):
- Pokémon: View your current party, check their stats, moves, and items.
- Bag: Access your items, organized into categories (Items, Medicine, Poké Balls, TMs/HMs, Berries, Key Items).
- Trainer Card: Displays your trainer ID, badges, play time, and other achievements.
- Save: Crucial for saving your progress! Save often, especially before challenging Gym Leaders or important events.
- Options: Adjust game settings like text speed, battle animations, and sound.
- Pokédex: View information on Pokémon you've encountered and caught.
- Mystery Gift: Access special event distributions (requires Wi-Fi connection).
Battle Screen:
- Top Screen: Shows the battle animation, your Pokémon, and the opponent's Pokémon.
- Bottom Screen: Displays your battle options (Fight, Pokémon, Bag, Run), your Pokémon's HP, and the opponent's HP.
Take some time to explore each of these menus early on. The Pokétch, in particular, has many useful applications that will aid you throughout your adventure.
