Choosing the right Poké Ball can significantly increase your chances of catching a wild Pokémon. Each has specific conditions where it excels:

- Poké Ball: Standard ball, 1x catch rate.
- Great Ball: Improved ball, 1.5x catch rate.
- Ultra Ball: Best standard ball, 2x catch rate.
- Master Ball: Catches any Pokémon without fail. Only one per game (usually).
- Premier Ball: Given for free when buying 10 or more Poké Balls. Same as Poké Ball.
- Heal Ball: Heals the caught Pokémon's HP and status.
- Net Ball: 3x catch rate on Water or Bug-type Pokémon.
- Nest Ball: Higher catch rate on lower-level Pokémon.
- Dive Ball: 3.5x catch rate on Pokémon encountered underwater (not applicable in Platinum) or while Surfing/fishing.
- Dusk Ball: 3.5x catch rate at night or in caves.
- Timer Ball: Catch rate increases as the battle lengthens (up to 4x).
- Quick Ball: 5x catch rate if used on the first turn of battle. Excellent for Abra!
- Repeat Ball: 3x catch rate on Pokémon you've already caught.
Always carry several Poké Balls. Quick Balls are fantastic for initial encounters, while Dusk Balls are great for caves and night-time legendary hunts. Timer Balls are useful for long, drawn-out battles against tough legendaries.
