Eterna City is home to the second Gym Leader, Gardenia. Before challenging her, heal your Pokémon. You can also visit the Pokémon Statue, the Cycle Shop (you'll get a Bicycle later), and the Underground Man's house (for the Explorer Kit).
Gardenia specializes in Grass-type Pokémon. Fire, Flying, and Ice-type moves are super effective. If you chose Chimchar, it will be incredibly useful here. Starly (evolved into Staravia) is also a strong choice. Consider catching a Ponyta on Route 206 (south of Eterna City) if you need a Fire-type.

Strategy: Gardenia's Pokémon can inflict status conditions like Poison and Sleep. Roserade is her strongest Pokémon, with high Special Attack. Focus on super-effective attacks. If you have a Fire-type, it will sweep her team. After defeating Gardenia, you'll receive the Forest Badge, allowing you to use Cut outside of battle, and TM86 (Grass Knot).
