Post-Game Story & Unlockables
Once you have defeated the Elite Four and become the Champion of Sinnoh, your adventure is far from over! The post-game content in Pokémon Platinum opens up a wealth of new challenges, areas to explore, and powerful Pokémon to catch, significantly extending the game's lifespan. This phase of the game is designed to test your skills and reward your dedication.
One of the most significant unlockables is access to the Fight Area and the Survival Area. These new locations are found by taking the ferry from Snowpoint City. The Fight Area is a hub for battling and training, featuring the Battle Tower, where you can test your team against increasingly difficult opponents. The Survival Area offers rare items and the chance to encounter powerful wild Pokémon in a challenging environment.
Furthermore, the post-game allows you to revisit many areas with new objectives. You can now access the Sunyshore City Tower, which leads to the Seaside Cavern, a new area with unique Pokémon. The legendary Pokémon Regigigas can also be encountered in the Snowpoint Temple under specific conditions (requiring the other Regi-trio in your party). The legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres can also be found roaming the Sinnoh region after certain story events, requiring careful tracking and capture strategies.
Another major addition is the ability to travel to the Kanto region via the S.S. Tidal from the Fight Area. This unlocks access to many familiar Pokémon from the first generation and provides new trainers to battle. You can also challenge the Gym Leaders of Kanto for a second time, often with stronger teams.
The post-game also emphasizes completing your Pokédex. With new areas and roaming Legendaries, you'll have ample opportunity to catch Pokémon you may have missed during your initial playthrough. The Pal Park in Fuchsia City (Kanto) also becomes accessible, allowing you to migrate Pokémon from your Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum save files, or even from older generation games via the DS's dual slots if you have compatible titles.
Finally, don't forget the numerous side quests and optional challenges, such as finding all the hidden Fossils in the Grand Underground, completing the Sinnoh Pokédex for Professor Rowan, and participating in various mini-games and events scattered throughout the region. The post-game truly offers a second layer of adventure for dedicated trainers.
