Team Galactic HQ & Spear Pillar

The climactic confrontation with Team Galactic begins after you've earned your seventh Gym Badge from Candice in Snowpoint City. Prepare for a series of intense battles and a journey to the very top of Mt. Coronet.

Part 1: Lake Acuity & Veilstone Galactic Warehouse

Your journey to thwart Team Galactic's plans starts at Lake Acuity. This section details the initial encounters and how to gain access to their main base.

  1. Head to Lake Acuity: After defeating Candice, make your way to the entrance of Lake Acuity, located west of Snowpoint City.
  2. Encounter Barry and Professor Rowan: Upon arrival, you'll find your rival, Barry, and Professor Rowan. They will inform you that Team Galactic has launched an attack on Lake Acuity.
  3. Confront Commander Saturn: Proceed into the lake area. Instead of Jupiter, you will encounter Commander Saturn, who is overseeing Team Galactic's operations here.
  4. Battle Commander Saturn:
    • Recommended Level: Your Pokémon should be around Level 40-45.
    • Saturn's Pokémon:
      • Kadabra (Psychic) - Weak to Bug, Ghost, Dark.
      • Bronzor (Steel/Psychic) - Weak to Fire, Ground, Ghost, Dark. Has high defenses.
      • Toxicroak (Poison/Fighting) - Weak to Flying, Ground, Psychic. Immune to Poison.
    • Strategy: Toxicroak is Saturn's ace. Ground or Psychic-type moves will be highly effective. Be wary of Kadabra's speed and special attack. Bronzor can be a nuisance with its typing; Fire or Ground moves are your best bet.
  5. Saturn Retreats: After you defeat him, Commander Saturn will retreat, leaving you to wonder about Team Galactic's next move.
  6. Travel to Veilstone City: Use Fly to quickly travel to Veilstone City.
  7. Locate the Galactic Grunt: Upon arriving in Veilstone, you'll spot a Team Galactic Grunt near the Galactic Warehouse, located in the northeastern part of the city.
  8. Follow the Grunt: The Grunt will flee into the warehouse. Follow him inside.
  9. Obtain the Storage Key: Inside the warehouse, the Grunt will drop the Storage Key. This key is essential for gaining access to the Team Galactic HQ.

Part 2: Team Galactic HQ Infiltration

With the Storage Key in hand, it's time to infiltrate Team Galactic's main base in Veilstone City. This is a sprawling dungeon filled with Grunts, puzzles, and important items.

  1. Enter Team Galactic HQ: Use the Storage Key to unlock the main entrance of the Team Galactic HQ, adjacent to the warehouse.
  2. Navigate the HQ: This is a multi-floor dungeon with numerous Team Galactic Grunts and scientists. Be prepared for many battles.
    • Key Items to Find: Explore thoroughly. You'll find valuable items like Full Restore, Max Revive, and Protein.
    • Warp Panels: The HQ features many warp panels. Experiment with them to find your way through. Some lead to dead ends with items, others to the next section.
  3. Encounter Commander Jupiter: You will face Commander Jupiter in a battle on one of the upper floors.
    • Recommended Level: Your Pokémon should be around Level 42-47.
    • Jupiter's Pokémon:
      • Zubat (Poison/Flying) - Weak to Electric, Ice, Psychic, Rock.
      • Skuntank (Poison/Dark) - Weak to Ground. Immune to Psychic.
      • Gengar (Ghost/Poison) - Weak to Ground, Psychic, Ghost, Dark. Immune to Normal, Fighting.
    • Strategy: Skuntank is Jupiter's strongest Pokémon. A strong Ground-type attacker will make short work of it. Gengar can be tricky with its speed and special attacks; use Ground or Psychic moves if possible.
  4. Confront Cyrus: After navigating through the HQ, you will eventually reach Cyrus's office. He will engage you in battle.
    • Recommended Level: Your Pokémon should be around Level 45-50.
    • Cyrus's Pokémon:
      • Sneasel (Dark/Ice) - Weak to Fighting, Rock, Bug, Steel, Fire, Fairy.
      • Murkrow (Dark/Flying) - Weak to Electric, Ice, Rock, Fairy. Immune to Ground.
      • Honchkrow (Dark/Flying) - Weak to Electric, Ice, Rock, Fairy. Immune to Ground.
      • Crobat (Poison/Flying) - Weak to Electric, Ice, Psychic, Rock.
    • Strategy: Cyrus's team is fast and hits hard. Electric and Rock-type moves are very effective against Murkrow/Honchkrow and Crobat. Sneasel is frail but fast; Fighting-type moves are ideal. Be prepared for status conditions like confusion or poison.
  5. Obtain the Master Ball: After you defeat Cyrus, he acknowledges your strength. Instead of finding it in a hidden room, Cyrus himself will give you the Master Ball as a token of your prowess before he makes his escape. This incredibly rare item guarantees a catch on any wild Pokémon. Use it wisely!

Part 3: Ascent to Spear Pillar

With Team Galactic's base cleared and the Master Ball in hand, your next destination is the summit of Mt. Coronet, the Spear Pillar, where Team Galactic plans to unleash their ultimate scheme.

  1. Return to Mt. Coronet: Fly to Hearthome City and re-enter Mt. Coronet from the northern entrance (Route 207). Alternatively, you can enter from Oreburgh City or Celestic Town, but the Hearthome entrance is generally the most direct path to the upper sections.
  2. Ascend Mt. Coronet: You will need a Pokémon with Rock Climb (HM08) to navigate the sheer cliffs and reach the higher elevations. You will also need Strength (HM04) and potentially Surf (HM03) depending on your chosen path.
    • Pathfinding: Follow the main path upwards, using Rock Climb whenever necessary. There are several floors and outdoor sections.
    • Team Galactic Grunts: Expect more battles with Team Galactic Grunts along the way. They are trying to prevent you from reaching the summit.
  3. Reach the Spear Pillar: Continue your ascent until you reach the summit, a sacred place known as the Spear Pillar.

Part 4: Confrontation at Spear Pillar

At the Spear Pillar, you will witness Team Galactic's ritual and engage in the final battles against Cyrus and his commanders.

  1. Witness the Summoning: As you arrive, you'll witness Team Galactic's ritual already in progress. Cyrus, with the Adamant Orb and Lustrous Orb, begins to summon the Legendary Pokémon. You will see Dialga and Palkia being drawn into this world by the Red Chain.
  2. Giratina's Intervention: Crucially, in Pokémon Platinum, the legendary Renegade Pokémon, Giratina, will appear and intervene, disrupting the summoning ritual and preventing Cyrus from fully controlling Dialga and Palkia. This intervention is what sets the stage for the Distortion World event.
  3. Double Battle with Barry: Before you can directly confront Cyrus, you'll be forced into a double battle alongside your rival, Barry, against Commander Mars and Commander Jupiter.
    • Recommended Level: Your Pokémon should be around Level 48-52.
    • Opponent Pokémon:
      • Mars: Purugly (Normal), Bronzong (Steel/Psychic), Golbat (Poison/Flying)
      • Jupiter: Skuntank (Poison/Dark), Crobat (Poison/Flying), Gastly (Ghost/Poison)
    • Strategy: Focus on taking down one Pokémon at a time. Barry's Pokémon will provide support. Ground-type moves are excellent against Skuntank and Bronzong. Electric or Rock-type moves are effective against the Flying-types. Coordinate with Barry to maximize damage.
  4. Final Battle Against Cyrus: After defeating the commanders, you will face Cyrus for the final time at Spear Pillar.
    • Recommended Level: Your Pokémon should be around Level 50-55.
    • Cyrus's Pokémon:
      • Weavile (Dark/Ice) - Weak to Fighting, Rock, Bug, Steel, Fire, Fairy. Extremely fast.
      • Honchkrow (Dark/Flying) - Weak to Electric, Ice, Rock, Fairy.
      • Crobat (Poison/Flying) - Weak to Electric, Ice, Psychic, Rock.
      • Gyarados (Water/Flying) - Weak to Electric, Rock.
      • Houndoom (Dark/Fire) - Weak to Fighting, Ground, Rock, Water.
    • Strategy: Cyrus's team is significantly stronger now. Weavile is a major threat due to its speed and high attack; a strong Fighting-type move is ideal. Gyarados can be devastating if it sets up Dragon Dance, so try to take it out quickly with Electric or Rock moves. Houndoom is vulnerable to Water, Ground, or Fighting. Be prepared for a tough fight and use your full team.
  5. The Distortion World Event: After your victory, Giratina fully intervenes. It will open a portal and drag Cyrus into the mysterious Distortion World, an alternate dimension where the laws of physics are warped. This event marks a pivotal moment in Pokémon Platinum, as you will soon follow them into this strange new realm.
