EV Training & IVs Explained
  • Individual Values (IVs): These are inherent, unchangeable stats (0-31) for each of your Pokémon's six stats (HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, Speed). They are determined when a Pokémon is generated (caught, hatched, or received). Higher IVs mean higher stats. You can get a rough idea of IVs from the IV Judge in the Battle Frontier.
  • Effort Values (EVs): These are bonus stats gained by defeating specific Pokémon. Each Pokémon gives 1-3 EVs in a certain stat (e.g., defeating a Starly gives 1 Speed EV). A Pokémon can have a maximum of 510 total EVs, with a maximum of 255 EVs in a single stat (though 252 is the practical maximum as 4 EVs = 1 stat point at Level 100).

EV Training Tips:

  • Power Items: Equip a Power Anklet, Power Band, etc., to gain +4 EVs in a specific stat per battle.
  • Macho Brace: Doubles all EV gains.
  • Pokérus: A rare Pokémon virus that doubles all EV gains. It spreads to adjacent Pokémon in your party.
  • Vitamins: (HP Up, Protein, Iron, Calcium, Zinc, Carbos) give 10 EVs in a specific stat, up to 100 EVs per stat.

EV training allows you to customize your Pokémon's stats beyond their base values, making them much stronger in specific roles.
