Shiny Pokémon are incredibly rare, recolored versions of Pokémon. In Platinum, there are a few methods to increase your chances of finding them:

  • Full Odds: The base chance of finding a shiny is 1 in 8192.
  • Poké Radar Chaining: As detailed in the Side Quests section, chaining encounters with the Poké Radar significantly increases the shiny chance, up to 1 in 200 for a chain of 40.
  • Soft Resetting: For static encounters (like legendary Pokémon), you can save in front of the Pokémon, battle it, and if it's not shiny, soft reset your game (L+R+Start+Select) and try again. This can take thousands of resets.
  • Masuda Method (International Breeding): If two Pokémon from different real-world language games breed, the chance of their offspring being shiny is increased to 1 in 2048.

Shiny hunting requires immense patience but is a highly rewarding endeavor for dedicated collectors.
