Flannery uses four Pokémon:

- Slugma (Level 26): Fire type. Weak to Water, Ground, Rock.
- Slugma (Level 26): Fire type. Weak to Water, Ground, Rock.
- Torkoal (Level 28): Fire type. Weak to Water, Ground, Rock. Has White Smoke ability, preventing stat reduction.
- Camerupt (Level 26): Fire/Ground type. Weak to Water, Ground. (Ruby only)
- Numel (Level 26): Fire/Ground type. Weak to Water, Ground. (Sapphire only)
Strategy: Water and Ground-type Pokémon are incredibly effective here. Swampert (evolved from Mudkip) will sweep this gym. If you don't have a strong Water or Ground-type, consider catching a Barboach (Route 111, fishing) or a Sandshrew (Route 111, Ruby only) and training it. Torkoal has high Defense, so special Water or Ground moves are ideal. Be careful of Overheat, which Flannery's Torkoal and Camerupt/Numel can use; it's powerful but lowers Special Attack. Use Potions to keep your Pokémon healthy, especially if you're relying on a single counter.
