The Rustboro City Gym is straightforward. There are two trainers before Roxanne: a Youngster and a Hiker. Both use Rock-type Pokémon like Geodude and Aron. Battling them is a good way to gain experience and test your team's effectiveness against Rock-types. The gym puzzle involves navigating a simple path. There are no complex traps or switches; just follow the path, battling trainers as you go. Use these battles to soften up your Pokémon for Roxanne, but heal at the Pokémon Center before facing her. Having a Pokémon with a Grass or Water-type move will make these preliminary battles much easier.
