Post-Game Content

Congratulations, Trainer! You've conquered the Elite Four and become the Hoenn Champion. But the adventure in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire is far from over! A wealth of new challenges, legendary Pokémon, and areas await your exploration. This detailed guide will walk you through everything you can do after the credits roll.

The Battle Frontier (Emerald Only)

While not present in Ruby and Sapphire, it's worth noting for those who might transition to Emerald that the Battle Frontier offers an extensive post-game challenge with seven unique facilities, each with its own Brain and battle style. In Ruby and Sapphire, your primary post-game competitive challenge will be the Battle Tower.

The Battle Tower

The Battle Tower is your first major post-game destination for competitive battling. Located on the northern part of Route 130 (accessible via Surf from Pacifidlog Town), this facility tests your team's strength and strategy against a series of trainers.

  • Location: Route 130 (requires Surf).
  • Challenge: Engage in consecutive battles without healing or changing your Pokémon.
  • Rewards: Earn Battle Points (BP) that can be exchanged for valuable items.
  • Strategy: Build a balanced team with good type coverage and strong individual stats. Consider Pokémon with high Speed and Attack/Special Attack to sweep opponents, or sturdy Pokémon with defensive capabilities. Status conditions can be very effective here.

Catching Legendary Pokémon

Several powerful legendary Pokémon become accessible after you've defeated the Elite Four. Prepare your team with Pokémon that can inflict status conditions (like Sleep or Paralysis) and bring plenty of Ultra Balls!

Latias (Ruby) / Latios (Sapphire) - Roaming Legendaries

One of these Eon Pokémon will begin roaming the Hoenn region after you defeat the Elite Four. The specific one depends on your game version:

  • Ruby: Latias (red)
  • Sapphire: Latios (blue)

To encounter them:

  1. After becoming Champion, return to your house in Littleroot Town.
  2. Go upstairs and speak to your mother. She will mention a red or blue Pokémon flying across the TV screen. This triggers the legendary to start roaming.
  3. Check your Pokédex for its current location on the map. It moves every time you change routes or enter/exit a building.
  4. Strategy:
    • Use a fast Pokémon with a move like Mean Look, Arena Trap, or Shadow Tag to prevent it from fleeing. Wobbuffet is excellent for this.
    • Inflict status conditions like Sleep or Paralysis.
    • Bring many Ultra Balls. Quick Balls (if you have them from trading) can also be effective at the start of a battle.
    • Save your game frequently, especially before attempting to encounter it.

Kyogre (Ruby) / Groudon (Sapphire) - Version Exclusives

The legendary Pokémon associated with your game's version can now be found in a specific cave. The cave's location will be revealed by the Weather Institute.

  • Location: The specific cave (Cave of Origin, Terra Cave, or Marine Cave) is dynamic.
  • How to Find:
    1. Fly to Fortree City.
    2. Enter the Weather Institute on Route 119.
    3. Speak to the scientist on the second floor. He will inform you of an unusual weather pattern (drought for Groudon, heavy rain for Kyogre) on a specific route.
    4. Go to that route. You will find a new cave entrance.
    5. Enter the cave and navigate to find the legendary Pokémon.
  • Strategy:
    • These Pokémon are level 70 and incredibly powerful. Bring a strong team.
    • Inflict status conditions (Sleep or Paralysis are best).
    • Lower its HP as much as possible without knocking it out. False Swipe is ideal.
    • Use Ultra Balls. Timer Balls can also be effective if the battle drags on.
    • Save before entering the cave or encountering the Pokémon.

Rayquaza - Sky Pillar

The legendary Sky High Pokémon, Rayquaza, resides atop the Sky Pillar.

  • Location: Sky Pillar, east of Pacifidlog Town (requires Mach Bike).
  • How to Access:
    1. From Pacifidlog Town, Surf east to Route 131.
    2. Continue east until you reach the entrance to Sky Pillar.
    3. You will need the Mach Bike to navigate the cracked floors inside. The puzzles involve strategically riding over cracked tiles without falling.
    4. Rayquaza is at the very top, at Level 70.
  • Strategy: Similar to Kyogre/Groudon, bring a strong team, inflict status conditions, and use Ultra Balls. Save before the encounter.

Regirock, Regice, Registeel - The Legendary Golems

These three legendary Pokémon are hidden behind an ancient puzzle involving Braille. You'll need specific Pokémon and HM moves to unlock their chambers.

  • Requirements:
    • Pokémon with Dig
    • Pokémon with Surf
    • Pokémon with Dive
    • Relicanth (found by fishing underwater on Route 124 or 126)
    • Wailord (evolve Wailmer at Level 40, or catch and evolve)
  • Step 1: The Sealed Chamber (Route 134)
    1. Start from Pacifidlog Town and Surf west on Route 134.
    2. Look for a dive spot in the middle of the currents. Dive down.
    3. Navigate the underwater cave to find a Braille inscription.
    4. Surface at the end of the cave to enter the Sealed Chamber.
    5. Inside, read the Braille on the back wall.
    6. Place Wailord in the first slot of your party and Relicanth in the last slot.
    7. Read the Braille again. An earthquake will occur, opening the three tombs.
  • Step 2: Regirock (Desert Ruins - Route 111)
    1. Fly to Lavaridge Town and head north to the Desert on Route 111.
    2. Locate the Desert Ruins in the southern part of the desert.
    3. Inside, read the Braille on the back wall.
    4. Walk two steps down, then two steps right, and use Dig. The door will open.
    5. Regirock is Level 40.
  • Step 3: Regice (Island Cave - Route 105)
    1. Fly to Petalburg City and Surf west on Route 105.
    2. Find the small island with a cave entrance (Island Cave).
    3. Inside, read the Braille on the back wall.
    4. Walk around the cave walls once clockwise, then read the Braille again. The door will open.
    5. Regice is Level 40.
  • Step 4: Registeel (Ancient Tomb - Route 120)
    1. Fly to Fortree City and head west to Route 120.
    2. Locate the Ancient Tomb, hidden behind some tall grass.
    3. Inside, read the Braille on the back wall.
    4. Walk to the center of the room and use Fly (the HM, not the move). The door will open.
    5. Registeel is Level 40.
  • Strategy: For all three Golems, they are Level 40, making them easier to catch than the other legendaries. Inflict status conditions and use Ultra Balls. Save before each encounter.

Rematching the Elite Four

You can challenge the Elite Four as many times as you like! This is an excellent way to train your Pokémon, earn money, and test new team compositions. Their Pokémon levels will remain the same, but it's a great benchmark for your team's strength.

Completing the Pokédex

Now that you're the Champion, focus on catching 'em all! This involves:

  • Trading: Connect with friends to trade for version-exclusive Pokémon and those that evolve through trading.
  • Breeding: Use the Day Care on Route 117 to breed Pokémon and fill out your Pokédex with their pre-evolutions.
  • Exploring: Revisit areas you might have rushed through to find Pokémon you missed.

Secret Bases

Expand your Secret Base collection! With the Champion title, you can now fully enjoy decorating and battling in Secret Bases. Find new locations, collect decorations, and link up with friends to visit each other's bases.

Contests

If you haven't already, dive into the world of Pokémon Contests! Located in Lilycove City, Verdanturf Town, Fallarbor Town, and Slateport City, these events allow your Pokémon to showcase their beauty, coolness, cuteness, cleverness, and toughness. Aim for the Master Rank in all categories!

Collecting Berries

Hoenn is rich with various berries. Plant and harvest them regularly to create powerful Pokéblocks for Contests or to use in battle. Many rare berries can be found on secluded routes or by trading with NPCs.

Mastering the Game Corner

Spend some time at the Mauville City Game Corner. You can try your luck at the Slot Machines or Roulette to earn Coins, which can be exchanged for valuable TMs and Pokémon like Abra, Clefairy, and Scyther (Ruby) / Pinsir (Sapphire).

Evolution Stones

Hunt for evolution stones to evolve certain Pokémon:

  • Fire Stone: Fiery Path, Route 112 (hidden), or traded from NPCs.
  • Water Stone: Abandoned Ship, Route 124 (hidden).
  • Thunder Stone: New Mauville.
  • Leaf Stone: Route 119 (hidden).
  • Moon Stone: Meteor Falls, Mt. Pyre.
  • Sun Stone: Found on Solrock (Ruby) or Lunatone (Sapphire) wild Pokémon.

The world of Hoenn is vast and full of secrets. Enjoy your continued journey as the Pokémon Champion!
