Individual Values (IVs) and Hyper Training
Individual Values (IVs) represent a fundamental aspect of a Pokémon's inherent potential, acting as hidden, unchangeable stats that range from 0 to 31 for each of a Pokémon's six base stats: HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. A Pokémon with an IV of 31 in a particular stat is considered to have "perfect" IVs in that stat, meaning it has reached its maximum potential for that specific characteristic. These IVs are determined the moment a Pokémon is encountered, hatched from an egg, or received as a gift, and they remain fixed throughout its lifetime. While IVs are crucial for maximizing a Pokémon's performance, especially in competitive play, obtaining Pokémon with perfect IVs across all stats can be incredibly time-consuming. Fortunately, Pokémon Sun and Moon introduce a post-game feature called Hyper Training. Available at the Battle Tree, Hyper Training allows you to "max out" a Pokémon's IVs to 31, regardless of their original values. However, this service requires a specific item called a Bottle Cap, and the Pokémon must be at level 100 to participate. Hyper Training effectively makes a Pokémon's stats equivalent to having perfect IVs, making it an invaluable tool for competitive trainers and those seeking to optimize their favorite Pokémon without the arduous task of breeding for perfect IVs from scratch. This system ensures that even Pokémon with initially average IVs can reach their full potential.
