Welcome, aspiring Pokémon Trainer, to the vibrant and tropical Alola region! This guide will walk you through your very first steps in this unique island paradise, from your arrival to your first Pokémon battle and beyond. Get ready to embark on an unforgettable adventure!

Preparing for Your Adventure

Upon starting a new game, you'll be prompted to set your character's appearance and name. Take your time, as this is your avatar for the entire journey!

  • Character Customization: Choose your gender, skin tone, hair color, and eye color. While more customization options unlock later, this initial choice sets your basic look.
  • Naming Your Trainer: Select a name that will be used throughout the game.

Arrival in Alola and First Encounters

Your adventure begins as you move into your new home in Alola. Professor Kukui, the region's eccentric Pokémon Professor, will be your first major contact.

  1. Meet Professor Kukui: He'll greet you shortly after you arrive at your new house.
  2. Follow Professor Kukui: He'll lead you out of your house and introduce you to the beautiful surroundings of Route 1 - Hau'oli Outskirts.
  3. Meet Lillie and Nebby: During your walk with Professor Kukui, you'll encounter a mysterious girl named Lillie and her even more mysterious Pokémon, Nebby (Cosmog).
  4. Rescue Nebby on Mahalo Trail: Nebby will wander off onto the dangerous Mahalo Trail. Follow Lillie to rescue it.
    • Action: Head north from the Hau'oli Outskirts onto Mahalo Trail.
    • Encounter: You'll find Nebby being attacked by a flock of Spearow on a rickety bridge.
    • Cutscene: The bridge will collapse, but a legendary Pokémon will appear to save you and Nebby.
  5. Receive Your First Pokémon: After the dramatic rescue, Professor Kukui will take you to Iki Town to meet the Island Kahuna, Hala. Here, you'll be presented with your very first partner Pokémon:
    • Rowlet (Grass/Flying): A calm and collected Grass Quill Pokémon.
    • Litten (Fire): A cool and logical Fire Cat Pokémon.
    • Popplio (Water): A playful and charming Sea Lion Pokémon.
  6. First Battle - Hau: Immediately after choosing your starter, your friendly rival, Hau, will challenge you to your first Pokémon battle! This is a great opportunity to get a feel for the battle system.
  7. Return Home: After the battle, Professor Kukui will escort you back to your house.

Initial Exploration and Item Collection

Before venturing too far, explore your immediate surroundings for valuable items.

  • Your House:
    • Potion: Check the PC in your room.
    • Running Shoes: Your mom will give these to you automatically, allowing you to move faster by holding 'B'.
  • Route 1 - Hau'oli Outskirts:
    • Potion: Located near the patch of tall grass to the west of your house.
    • Poké Ball: Given to you by Professor Kukui after your first battle with Hau.

Iki Town Festival

After your initial encounters and choosing your starter, you'll participate in a festival in Iki Town.

  1. The Festival: Head back to Iki Town.
  2. Battle with Hau (Rematch): Hau will challenge you to another battle, this time with a full understanding of your chosen starter's type advantage.
  3. Z-Ring Acquisition: Kahuna Hala will bestow upon you a Z-Ring, a crucial item that allows your Pokémon to unleash powerful Z-Moves later in the game.
