Breeding for Perfect Pokémon
Breeding is a cornerstone of creating Pokémon with optimized stats and abilities for competitive play and challenging in-game encounters. The process begins with obtaining two compatible Pokémon, typically a male and a female of the same Egg Group, or one Pokémon and a Ditto. The key to success lies in utilizing specific held items to influence the offspring. By equipping one parent with a Destiny Knot, you ensure that 5 of its 6 individual values (IVs) are passed down to the hatched egg. This significantly increases the chances of getting a Pokémon with high IVs across multiple stats, which is crucial for maximizing its potential.
To guarantee that the offspring inherits a desired personality, equip the other parent with an Everstone. This item will pass down the Nature of the parent holding it. Natures can provide a 10% boost to one stat and a 10% decrease to another, making them vital for tailoring a Pokémon's strengths. For instance, a Pokémon that relies on speed might benefit from a Timid Nature (which boosts Speed and lowers Attack), while a bulky attacker might prefer an Adamant Nature (boosting Attack and lowering Special Attack).
Hatching eggs is a process that requires patience and strategic movement. Walking a certain number of steps will trigger the hatching process. The Nursery, located on Akala Island, is the primary location for breeding. Here, you can leave your compatible Pokémon, and the Day Care Man and his wife will inform you when an egg is ready. The number of steps required to hatch an egg varies depending on the Pokémon species. While the initial grind for perfect IVs and Natures can be time-consuming, the resulting Pokémon, with their superior stats and tailored abilities, are invaluable for tackling the toughest challenges Alola has to offer, including post-game content and online battles.
