Verdant Cavern Trial
Your first true test as an Island Challenge participant awaits in the Verdant Cavern, under the guidance of Captain Ilima. This trial is designed to introduce players to the mechanics of Island Trials and the formidable nature of Totem Pokémon. The initial phase of the trial involves navigating the cavern and engaging in battles against three wild Yungoos (or Gumshoos in Pokémon Sun). These battles serve as a warm-up, allowing you to test your team's strength and familiarize yourself with the cavern's layout.
Upon defeating the three Yungoos/Gumshoos, you will confront the Totem Pokémon. In Pokémon Sun, the Totem Pokémon is a powerful Gumshoos, while in Pokémon Moon, it is a formidable Raticate. These Totem Pokémon are significantly stronger than their regular counterparts, boasting enhanced stats and the ability to call for backup from wild Pokémon that inhabit the cavern. This means you'll often be fighting the Totem Pokémon and one or more allies simultaneously, making the battle a test of your ability to manage multiple threats.
To succeed in the Verdant Cavern trial, it is crucial to utilize type advantages effectively. The Totem Gumshoos is Normal-type, making it weak to Fighting-type moves. The Totem Raticate is Normal/Dark-type, making it weak to Fighting, Bug, and Fairy-type moves. Prioritizing the elimination of any summoned allies is also a key strategy, as they can often provide support or additional damage. ensure their teams are adequately leveled and have a diverse movepool to counter both the Totem Pokémon and its potential allies. Successfully completing this trial not only earns you a Z-Crystal but also sifies your progress in becoming a true Island Challenge Champion.
