Hidden Abilities (HAs) are powerful, alternative abilities for Pokémon. They are often rarer than regular abilities. You can find Pokémon with HAs in Max Raid Battles, especially 5-star and higher raids. Breeding a Pokémon with its HA has a chance to pass it down to offspring. The Ability Patch (a rare item from the Crown Tundra DLC or high-level Max Raids) can change a Pokémon's regular ability to its Hidden Ability. HAs are crucial for many competitive builds.
