Role-Specific Strategies

Understanding your role and executing its specific strategies is paramount to success in Pokémon UNITE. While team composition and dynamic situations will always influence gameplay, mastering the fundamentals of each role provides a strong foundation.

Attacker

As an Attacker, your primary goal is to deal high damage and secure KOs. Your positioning is crucial, often staying behind Defenders and Supporters to unleash your abilities safely.

  • Early Game:
    • Laning: Head to your designated lane (top or bottom) with a partner. Focus on last-hitting wild Pokémon to gain experience and evolve quickly.
    • Item Focus: Prioritize stacking items like Attack Weight or Sp. Atk Specs by scoring small amounts of points early. This provides significant power scaling.
    • Harassment: Use your ranged attacks or burst abilities to chip away at enemy HP, forcing them to retreat or creating opportunities for KOs.
  • Mid Game:
    • Objective Control: Participate in fights for objectives like Rotom or Drednaw. Your damage output is vital for securing these.
    • Positioning: Always be aware of enemy flankers. Utilize bushes for surprise attacks or to escape dangerous situations.
    • Combo Execution: Practice your Pokémon's move combos (e.g., Espeon's Psyshock into Psybeam) to maximize damage.
  • Late Game:
    • Zapdos: Your damage is critical for taking down Zapdos quickly. Prioritize this objective above all else in the final two minutes.
    • Team Fights: Focus on eliminating high-priority targets like enemy Attackers or Speedsters. Stay protected by your team's front line.
    • Scoring: While damage is key, score points when safe to do so, especially after securing KOs or objectives.

All-Rounder

All-Rounders offer a balanced mix of offense and defense, capable of dishing out damage while also having decent survivability. They often initiate engagements or follow up on a Defender's crowd control.

  • Early Game:
    • Laning: Typically lane with a ranged partner. Focus on farming and engaging in skirmishes when you have an advantage.
    • Item Focus: Items like Muscle Band for sustained damage or Scope Lens for critical hits are excellent choices. Buddy Barrier is also strong for survivability during your Unite Move.
    • Pressure: Apply pressure to the enemy lane, using your balanced stats to win trades.
  • Mid Game:
    • Objective Contests: Be at every objective. All-Rounders excel at sustained fights, making them invaluable for Drednaw and Rotom.
    • Engage/Disengage: Learn when to commit to a fight and when to retreat. Your bulk allows for more aggressive plays than an Attacker, but you're not invincible.
    • Peeling: Help protect your squishier Attackers from enemy Speedsters or All-Rounders.
  • Late Game:
    • Zapdos: Contribute significant damage to Zapdos and be ready to defend against enemy attempts to steal it.
    • Frontline Support: Work with your Defender to create a strong front line, soaking damage and disrupting enemies.
    • Target Selection: Focus on enemies that pose the biggest threat or those that your team can quickly burst down.

Defender

Defenders are the backbone of any team, specializing in soaking damage, disrupting enemies, and protecting allies. Your role is less about KOs and more about creating opportunities for your team.

  • Early Game:
    • Laning: Always lane with an Attacker or All-Rounder. Your primary goal is to protect them and ensure they can farm safely.
    • Item Focus: Focus Band for sustain, Aeos Cookie for HP stacking, and Score Shield for safer scoring are excellent choices.
    • Zoning: Use your abilities to zone enemies away from wild Pokémon or your goal zone.
  • Mid Game:
    • Objective Control: Be the first to objectives like Drednaw and Rotom. Use your bulk to tank damage and your crowd control to prevent enemies from stealing.
    • Peeling: Constantly look for opportunities to protect your damage dealers. If an enemy Speedster dives your Attacker, use your abilities to stun or push them away.
    • Vision: Use your presence to deny enemy vision in key bushes around objectives.
  • Late Game:
    • Zapdos: Your role is critical here. Tank Zapdos's damage, but more importantly, use your crowd control to prevent enemies from reaching or stealing it. Block enemy paths and disrupt their attempts.
    • Frontline: Be the primary initiator of team fights, absorbing damage and setting up KOs for your team.
    • Goal Defense: If Zapdos is lost, prioritize defending your goal zones with your high HP and defensive abilities.

Speedster

Speedsters are agile Pokémon focused on burst damage, quick KOs, and disrupting enemy backlines. They excel at farming the central area and ganking lanes.

  • Early Game:
    • Jungle Clear: Start in the central area (jungle). Clear your wild Pokémon efficiently to reach level 5 and unlock your powerful moves quickly.
    • Ganking: Once level 5, look for gank opportunities in top or bottom lane. Target low-HP enemies or those overextending.
    • Item Focus: Muscle Band for faster jungle clear and damage, Razor Claw for burst, and Energy Amplifier for Unite Move synergy are common.
  • Mid Game:
    • Objective Pressure: Continue to clear jungle camps and look for opportunities to secure Rotom or Drednaw. Your mobility allows you to rotate quickly.
    • Enemy Backline: Identify and dive enemy Attackers or Supporters. Your goal is to eliminate them quickly or force them out of the fight.
    • Counter-Jungle: If safe, invade the enemy jungle to steal their wild Pokémon and deny them experience.
  • Late Game:
    • Zapdos: Your burst damage is crucial for securing Zapdos. Be ready to either take it down or steal it from the enemy.
    • Pick Offs: Look for isolated enemies before major team fights. A successful pick can turn the tide.
    • Flanking: Use your mobility to flank enemy teams, attacking from unexpected angles to cause chaos and eliminate key targets.

Supporter

Supporters are the unsung heroes, providing healing, shields, and crowd control to their allies. Your impact is measured not in KOs, but in enabling your team's success.

  • Early Game:
    • Laning: Always lane with a damage dealer. Focus on keeping them healthy and setting up KOs with your crowd control.
    • Item Focus: Exp. Share is almost mandatory to ensure your allies get more experience while you still contribute. Buddy Barrier and Focus Band are also strong for survivability and team utility.
    • Vision: Use your presence to check bushes and prevent enemy ambushes.
  • Mid Game:
    • Objective Support: Be present at every objective. Heal and shield your allies during Drednaw and Rotom fights. Use your crowd control to disrupt enemy attempts to steal.
    • Peeling: Protect your Attackers and All-Rounders from enemy dives. Your abilities can turn the tide of a skirmish.
    • Healing/Shielding: Prioritize keeping your most valuable damage dealers alive. Timely heals can win team fights.
  • Late Game:
    • Zapdos: Your healing and shielding are critical during the Zapdos fight. Keep your team alive while they secure the objective or defend against the enemy.
    • Unite Move Usage: Use your Unite Move strategically to turn team fights, either by providing massive healing/shields or powerful crowd control.
    • Positioning: Stay safe behind your Defenders and All-Rounders. You are a high-priority target for the enemy, so avoid being caught out.
