  • Nidoran♀/Nidoran♂ (Route 22): Both learn 'Double Kick' (Fighting-type) at Level 12, making them invaluable for the Pewter City Gym against Brock's Rock/Ground types. They evolve into Nidorina/Nidorino and then Nidoqueen/Nidoking, becoming powerful Ground/Poison types.
  • Mankey (Route 22): A pure Fighting-type that learns 'Low Kick' early. Another excellent choice for Brock. Evolves into Primeape.
  • Butterfree (Viridian Forest - Caterpie): Caterpie evolves quickly into Metapod and then Butterfree. Butterfree is a Bug/Flying type with good Special Attack and access to 'Confusion' (Psychic-type) and status moves like 'Sleep Powder'.
  • Pidgeotto (Route 1, 2, Viridian Forest - Pidgey): Pidgey evolves into Pidgeotto and then Pidgeot. A reliable Normal/Flying type that learns 'Gust' and 'Wing Attack'. Useful for early Flying-type coverage.
  • Sandshrew (Route 3): A pure Ground-type Pokémon. Ground-type moves are super effective against Electric-types, making Sandshrew an excellent counter for Lt. Surge's Gym. Evolves into Sandslash.

Focus on having a diverse team that can handle different type matchups.
