Fishing is a great way to catch Water-type Pokémon that you might not find by surfing or in the tall grass. There are three types of fishing rods in Pokémon Yellow, each catching different Pokémon.
- Old Rod: Obtained from a fisherman in Vermilion City. Catches low-level Magikarp and Poliwag.
- Good Rod: Obtained from a fisherman on Route 12 (south of Lavender Town). Catches higher-level Magikarp, Poliwag, and Goldeen.
- Super Rod: Obtained from a fisherman in Fuchsia City. Catches the widest variety of Water-type Pokémon, including Gyarados, Seaking, and Tentacool.
To use a rod, stand next to a body of water, open your Bag, select the rod, and choose 'USE'. A '!' will appear when a Pokémon bites. Press 'A' quickly to reel it in and start a battle. Fishing is essential for completing your Pokédex and finding powerful Water-type Pokémon.
