Shadow Pokémon are the central antagonists of Pokémon Colosseum, and learning to identify them is paramount to your success. These Pokémon have had their hearts sealed, amplifying their aggression and making them incredibly difficult to battle. They are often distinguished by a dark aura and a unique "shadow" animation when they enter battle. When you encounter a trainer using a Shadow Pokémon, their Pokémon's portrait will often have a distinct red border or a special icon indicating its corrupted state.

The key to snagging Shadow Pokémon lies in weakening them sufficiently without knocking them out. Once a Shadow Pokémon's HP is low enough, Wes can use his "Snag Machine" to attempt to catch it. Shadow Pokémon cannot be purified or traded until their hearts are opened. The process of identifying and snagging these Pokémon is a core gameplay loop in Colosseum, and mastering it will allow you to build a powerful team capable of challenging Cipher's forces and ultimately saving the Orre region from their tyranny.
