Sentry Turrets are automated defense systems that will fire upon Chell if she enters their line of sight. They are characterized by their red laser sight and distinctive voices. While dangerous, they are also fragile. They can be disabled by knocking them over, either by dropping objects on them, using portals to get behind them and picking them up, or by redirecting Energy Pellets into them. Once knocked over, they will flail and eventually deactivate. You can also pick up a disabled turret and use it to block laser grids or activate buttons, though this is less common. Their presence adds an element of stealth and combat puzzle-solving to the game, requiring you to think strategically about how to bypass or neutralize them without taking damage.
