Character Customization
While Post Trauma focuses heavily on a fixed narrative and protagonist, there are subtle ways to personalize your experience and uncover unique cosmetic elements. These customizations are primarily found by exploring thoroughly and solving environmental puzzles. Unlike many modern games, there isn't a dedicated "Character Customization" menu at the start; instead, you'll discover items that subtly alter Roman's appearance or provide thematic flavor.
Unlocking Cosmetic Items
Most cosmetic items are hidden off the beaten path or require specific actions to acquire. Keep an eye out for flickering lights, unusual sounds, or objects that seem out of place. Interacting with these often reveals a hidden compartment or triggers a mini-event leading to a customization piece.
Headwear
- Dusty Beret: Found in the abandoned Hospital Records office, specifically in the filing cabinet marked "Patient X." You'll need the Rusty Key, located beneath the broken sink in the Staff Lounge, to open it.
- Stained Bandana: Acquired after successfully navigating the Sewer Maze in Chapter 3 without taking any damage. It's a reward that appears on a crate near the exit ladder.
- Worker's Hard Hat: Located in the Maintenance Tunnel, hanging on a hook near the generator that requires the Power Fuse. Activating the generator illuminates the area, making the hat visible.
Outerwear
- Torn Lab Coat: Discovered in the Dissecting Room, draped over an examination table. Be warned, retrieving this item often triggers a brief, unsettling encounter.
- Grime-Stained Jacket: Found in the Boiler Room, tucked behind the largest boiler unit. You'll need to extinguish the small fire near the entrance using the Fire Extinguisher from the Security Office to safely access this area.
Accessories
- Broken Spectacles: These are a subtle addition, found on the desk in the Doctor's Office, next to the Patient Files. They add a slight aesthetic change to Roman's face.
- Bloodied Wristwatch: Located in the Morgue Freezer, on the wrist of one of the cadavers. This item is particularly difficult to acquire due to the extreme cold and limited visibility. Consider bringing a Flashlight and moving quickly.
Equipping Customizations
Once an item is acquired, it will automatically appear in your inventory under a new "Cosmetics" tab. To equip an item:
- Open your inventory (default key: Tab on PC, Select on PlayStation, Back on Xbox).
- Navigate to the "Cosmetics" tab using the directional keys or left/right bumpers.
- Highlight the desired item.
- Press the "Equip" button (default key: E on PC, X on PlayStation, A on Xbox).
Equipped items will immediately reflect on Roman's character model. There are no statistical benefits to these items; they are purely for aesthetic enjoyment and serve as a testament to your exploration skills.
Note: Some cosmetic items may only be available after completing certain story chapters or achieving specific in-game milestones. Replaying chapters with new knowledge can be a great way to uncover these hidden gems.
