Post-Game Unlocks
Congratulations, survivor! Completing your first harrowing journey through the nightmare of Post Trauma is an achievement in itself. But the terror doesn't end there. The game offers a suite of compelling post-game unlocks designed to deepen your understanding of the world, challenge your skills, and provide new perspectives on the horrors you've faced. This section details how to access each unlock and what to expect.
New Game+ (NG+)
Upon successfully reaching any of the primary endings, New Game+ becomes immediately available from the main menu. Selecting NG+ allows you to replay the entire campaign with several key differences:
- Retained Inventory: You begin NG+ with all weapons, healing items (excluding story-critical consumables), and key items (such as the Rusty Key or Medical Kit) that were in your inventory at the moment of your previous playthrough's completion. This includes any upgrades you've applied to your firearms.
- Increased Difficulty: Enemies are significantly tougher, boasting higher health pools and increased damage output. Expect more aggressive AI patterns and new enemy placements in previously safe areas. Ammunition and healing item drops are also scarcer.
- New Lore Documents: Scattered throughout the environment are additional Fragmented Notes and Distorted Recordings. These provide deeper insights into the origins of the trauma, the facility's history, and the fate of other victims. Keep an eye out for these in areas like the Maintenance Tunnels and the Abandoned Research Wing.
- "Echoes of the Past" Collectibles: A new set of 10 unique collectibles, the "Echoes of the Past," are hidden across the game world. These are small, glowing artifacts that, when collected, unlock short, unsettling audio logs detailing the final moments of various research personnel. Finding all 10 is required for the "Archivist of Agony" achievement.
Nightmare Difficulty
To unlock Nightmare Difficulty, you must complete the game on Hard difficulty or higher. This mode is not for the faint of heart and offers the ultimate challenge:
- Extreme Enemy Aggression: Enemies will sprint at you, flank more effectively, and possess significantly higher resistance to damage. Headshots are often the only reliable way to put down many foes.
- Minimal Resources: Ammunition is incredibly scarce, and healing items are almost non-existent. Resource management becomes paramount. You'll need to rely heavily on melee combat and environmental traps.
- Permanent Death (Optional): An optional "Permadeath" toggle becomes available for Nightmare Difficulty. If enabled, dying means restarting the entire game from the beginning. This is for the truly masochistic and unlocks the exclusive "Unbroken Will" player icon.
- Unique Weapon Blueprint: Successfully completing Nightmare Difficulty unlocks the blueprint for the "Prototype Incinerator" in NG+. This powerful flamethrower-like weapon deals continuous fire damage and can stun most enemies, but consumes fuel rapidly. The blueprint can be found in the Weapon Crafting Station in the Security Office after unlocking.
Character Skins
Several cosmetic character skins become available after meeting specific criteria:
- "Janitor's Uniform" Skin: Complete the game on any difficulty. This skin replaces Roman's default attire with a worn janitor's uniform, complete with a name tag reading "M. Miller."
- "Hazmat Suit" Skin: Complete the game on Hard difficulty or higher. This skin outfits Roman in a full, albeit slightly damaged, hazmat suit, offering a different visual aesthetic.
- "Distorted Reflection" Skin: Achieve the "True Ending" (Ending C) and then complete NG+. This highly unsettling skin gives Roman a translucent, glitching appearance, reflecting the psychological toll of his journey.
Developer Commentary Mode
Unlock Developer Commentary Mode by collecting all Fragmented Notes and Distorted Recordings across a single playthrough (either initial or NG+). Once unlocked, a new option will appear in the main menu under "Extras." Activating this mode during gameplay will trigger audio commentary tracks at specific points in the game, offering insights from the development team on:
- Level Design Choices: Explanations for environmental layouts, puzzle designs, and enemy placements.
- Narrative Intent: Deeper dives into the story, character motivations, and the symbolism behind various events.
- Technical Challenges: Discussions on the game's engine, art direction, and sound design.
Look for small, glowing "Commentary Orb" interactables in key areas, such as the Central Atrium, the Medical Bay, and the Observation Deck, to activate the audio tracks.
Bonus Chapter: "The Descent"
To access the bonus chapter, "The Descent," you must achieve the "True Ending" (Ending C) and then complete Nightmare Difficulty with Permadeath enabled. This challenging epilogue provides a final, terrifying glimpse into the true nature of the facility and Roman's fate.
- New Location: "The Descent" takes place in a previously inaccessible, subterranean section of the facility, known as the "Abyssal Archives." This area is characterized by shifting architecture and an oppressive atmosphere.
- Unique Enemy: Face the "Architect of Whispers," a formidable new enemy type that can manipulate the environment and induce debilitating hallucinations.
- Exclusive Ending: "The Descent" features its own unique, highly ambiguous ending that further expands on the game's lore but offers no definitive closure.
- "Architect's Insight" Achievement: Completing "The Descent" unlocks this achievement, signifying your mastery of Post Trauma's most brutal challenges.
