Episode 1: The Fateful Meeting
Welcome to the very beginning of your adventure in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2! This episode serves as a fantastic introduction to both the story and the core gameplay mechanics. Don't worry if you're new to either Puyo Puyo or Tetris; the game does an excellent job of easing you in.
Stage 1-1: A Strange New World
- Objective: Clear 10 lines in Tetris.
- Character: Tee
- Strategy: This is your very first Tetris stage, designed to be a gentle warm-up. Focus on making single and double line clears. Don't worry about T-Spins or complex setups just yet. The game will guide you with basic controls. Keep your stack relatively flat and aim to clear lines as they come.
- Item Drops: You won't encounter any item drops in this introductory stage.
Stage 1-2: Puyo Puyo Basics
- Objective: Clear 20 Puyo Puyo.
- Character: Ringo
- Strategy: Now it's time for Puyo Puyo! This stage introduces you to the basics of matching four or more same-colored Puyo to make them disappear. Focus on creating simple chains. Try to stack Puyo of the same color together so that when you clear one group, it causes another group to fall and clear as well. This is the fundamental concept of chaining in Puyo Puyo.
- Item Drops: No item drops here either.
Stage 1-3: The Unexpected Encounter
- Objective: Win a Versus Battle (Puyo Puyo vs. Tetris).
- Characters: Ringo (Puyo Puyo) vs. Tee (Tetris)
- Strategy: This is your first taste of the iconic Puyo Puyo Tetris Versus mode!
- As Ringo (Puyo Puyo): Your goal is to send Garbage Puyo to Tee by creating chains. Aim for at least 2-3 chain clears to send a decent amount of garbage. Don't let your field fill up!
- As Tee (Tetris): Your goal is to send Garbage Blocks to Ringo by clearing lines, especially multiple lines at once (Doubles, Triples, Tetris). Try to set up for a Tetris (clearing four lines simultaneously) as this sends a significant amount of garbage.
- Key Tip: Pay attention to your opponent's field. If they're close to topping out, a quick attack can seal the victory!
- Item Drops: Still no item drops in this early battle.
Stage 1-4: The Mystery of the Glitch
- Objective: Clear 15 lines in Tetris.
- Character: Tee
- Strategy: This stage is a bit more challenging than 1-1. You'll start to see the pace pick up slightly. Continue practicing your line clears. Try to keep your stack low and avoid creating large gaps that are hard to fill. If you're struggling, remember you can hold pieces in the "Hold" queue for later use.
- Item Drops: None.
Stage 1-5: A Familiar Face
- Objective: Clear 25 Puyo Puyo.
- Character: Ringo
- Strategy: Similar to 1-2, but with a slightly higher target. Focus on building small, consistent chains. Don't be afraid to experiment with different Puyo placements to see how they affect potential chains. Remember, you can rotate Puyo before dropping them.
- Item Drops: None.
Stage 1-6: The First Skill Battle!
- Objective: Win a Skill Battle (Ringo vs. Tee).
- Characters: Ringo (Puyo Puyo) vs. Tee (Tetris)
- Strategy: This is where the new Skill Battle mode makes its debut!
- Understanding Skills: Before the battle, you'll be prompted to equip a Skill Battle set. For this first battle, the game will likely provide a default set. Skills are activated by filling your Skill Gauge (by clearing Puyo/lines) and then pressing the designated Skill button (usually L1/LB).
- Ringo's Strategy (Puyo Puyo): Focus on building chains to fill your Skill Gauge. Use your skills strategically. For example, a skill that clears a specific color of Puyo can help extend a chain or get you out of a tough spot. A skill that boosts your attack power will make your chains send more garbage.
- Tee's Strategy (Tetris): Clear lines quickly to fill your Skill Gauge. Skills like "Line Clear Boost" or "Garbage Block Shield" can be incredibly useful. Pay attention to the items that drop on the field – these are crucial in Skill Battles!
- Item Management: In Skill Battles, items will drop onto your field. These can be beneficial (e.g., healing items, attack boosts) or detrimental (e.g., status effects like "Mini Puyo" or "Fog"). Collect beneficial items by clearing Puyo/lines on top of them. Avoid clearing on top of detrimental items if possible, or use a skill to remove them.
- Winning Condition: Deplete your opponent's HP to zero. Your attacks (chains/line clears) and skills will deal damage.
Congratulations! You've completed Episode 1. You've now been introduced to the core gameplay of both Puyo Puyo and Tetris, the Versus mode, and the exciting new Skill Battle mode. Get ready for more challenges in Episode 2!
