EX Episode 8: Suzuran's Dream
Welcome to Suzuran's Dream, a challenging EX Episode that pits you against a series of formidable opponents. This episode focuses heavily on strategic Puyo Puyo and Tetris play, often requiring quick thinking and efficient clearing to overcome the AI's relentless attacks. Be prepared for some intense battles!
Battle 1: Ringo & Tee (Puyo Puyo vs. Tetris)
- Opponents: Ringo (Puyo Puyo) and Tee (Tetris)
- Mode: Swap (Puyo Puyo vs. Tetris)
- Strategy: This battle is a classic Puyo Puyo vs. Tetris showdown. Your primary goal is to build up a strong chain in your active board and then unleash it when your opponent is vulnerable.
- Puyo Puyo Side: Focus on building a large 3- or 4-chain. Don't be afraid to use a quick 2-chain to send some garbage and disrupt Tee's Tetris board. Look for opportunities to set up a "sandwich" chain (a chain that clears a large amount of Puyo between two larger pieces).
- Tetris Side: Prioritize clearing lines efficiently. Aim for T-Spins and Tetris clears (4 lines at once) to send significant garbage. Keep your board as flat as possible to avoid getting topped out. If you see Ringo building a large chain, try to clear lines quickly to send garbage and interrupt her setup.
- Swap Timing: Pay close attention to the swap timer. If you're about to swap to a board that's in trouble, try to clear as much as possible before the swap. Conversely, if your opponent is about to swap to a board that's in trouble, try to send a large attack right before the swap to catch them off guard.
- Item Skill Recommendation: Attack Up (S) or Defense Up (S). Attack Up will help you send more garbage, while Defense Up can mitigate some of the incoming attacks.
Battle 2: Feli (Puyo Puyo)
- Opponent: Feli (Puyo Puyo)
- Mode: Skill Battle (Puyo Puyo)
- Strategy: Feli is known for her aggressive Puyo Puyo play and quick chains. This battle will test your ability to respond to incoming garbage and build chains under pressure.
- Skill Battle Focus: Your equipped skills will be crucial here. Make sure you have a good offensive and defensive skill setup.
- Recommended Skills:
- Offensive: Chain Boost (S) to increase your chain power, or Garbage Clear (S) to quickly get rid of incoming nuisance Puyo.
- Defensive: Shield (S) to block a large attack, or HP Recovery (S) if you find yourself taking a lot of damage.
- Puyo Puyo Tactics: Focus on building efficient chains. Don't overcommit to a massive chain if Feli is sending a lot of garbage; sometimes a series of smaller, quicker chains is more effective. Look for opportunities to counter her attacks with your own. Use Quick Drop and Hard Drop to place Puyo faster.
- Item Skill Recommendation: Attack Up (M) or Chain Boost (M). These will significantly boost your offensive capabilities.
Battle 3: Ecolo (Puyo Puyo)
- Opponent: Ecolo (Puyo Puyo)
- Mode: Big Bang (Puyo Puyo)
- Strategy: Ecolo in Big Bang mode is a true test of your Puyo Puyo speed and chain building. You'll need to clear pre-arranged Puyo quickly to build massive chains.
- Big Bang Mechanics: Remember that in Big Bang, you're given a pre-set board with Puyo already placed. Your goal is to clear as many Puyo as possible in a single chain. The faster you clear and the bigger your chain, the more damage you deal.
- Speed is Key: Don't hesitate! Quickly identify the optimal starting point for your chain and execute it as fast as possible. Look for obvious color groupings and potential chain extensions.
- Practice Makes Perfect: If you're struggling, consider practicing Big Bang in Free Play to get a feel for quick chain identification and execution.
- Item Skill Recommendation: Chain Boost (S) or Attack Up (S). These will maximize the damage output of your Big Bang chains.
Battle 4: Marle (Tetris)
- Opponent: Marle (Tetris)
- Mode: Skill Battle (Tetris)
- Strategy: Marle is a formidable Tetris player, and this Skill Battle will require precise piece placement and efficient line clears.
- Skill Battle Focus: Just like with Feli, your equipped skills are vital.
- Recommended Skills:
- Offensive: Garbage Attack (S) to send more garbage per line clear, or T-Spin Boost (S) if you're proficient at T-Spins.
- Defensive: Hold Clear (S) to quickly clear your hold box if it gets filled with garbage, or HP Recovery (S).
- Tetris Tactics: Focus on maintaining a clean board. Aim for Tetris clears (4 lines at once) and T-Spins to send significant garbage. Avoid creating holes and uneven stacks that can lead to early top-outs. Use the Hold feature strategically to save useful pieces.
- Item Skill Recommendation: Attack Up (M) or Garbage Attack (M). These will amplify your Tetris offensive power.
Battle 5: Squares (Puyo Puyo & Tetris)
- Opponent: Squares (Puyo Puyo & Tetris)
- Mode: Fusion
- Strategy: The ultimate challenge! Squares in Fusion mode will test your ability to seamlessly switch between Puyo Puyo and Tetris mechanics on a single board.
- Fusion Mechanics: Remember that Puyo Puyo and Tetris pieces fall onto the same board. Tetris pieces can crush Puyo, and Puyo can be cleared by matching colors. Clearing lines with Tetris pieces sends garbage to your opponent, and clearing Puyo chains also sends garbage.
- Prioritize Clearing: The key to Fusion is to always be clearing something. Don't let your board get too high with either Puyo or Tetris pieces.
- Puyo Puyo Chains: Look for opportunities to set up small Puyo chains. Even a 2-chain can be useful for sending some garbage or clearing space.
- Tetris Clears: Prioritize clearing lines with Tetris pieces, especially Tetris clears. These send a lot of garbage and can quickly turn the tide.
- Crushing Puyo: Use Tetris pieces to crush Puyo that are in inconvenient locations or to set up larger Puyo chains.
- Garbage Management: Be mindful of incoming garbage. Try to clear lines or chains to counter it as quickly as possible.
- Item Skill Recommendation: Attack Up (L) or Defense Up (L). Given the difficulty, a strong boost to either offense or defense will be invaluable. Consider a skill that provides HP Recovery if you find yourself taking a lot of damage.
