Post-Game Challenges
Congratulations, adventurer! You've saved the Glade of Dreams from the nefarious Darktoons and restored the Bubble Dreamer's slumber. But the fun doesn't stop there! Rayman Origins offers a wealth of challenges and secrets to uncover even after the credits roll. This section will guide you through maximizing your post-game experience, from collecting every Electoon to mastering the most difficult levels.
Collecting All Electoons
The primary post-game objective is often to collect all 246 Electoons. Each level has a potential of 10 Electoons:
- 6 Electoons from Lums: You earn Electoons by collecting Lums. Reaching specific thresholds (typically 150, 200, 250, and 300 Lums) will award you with Electoons. Aim for the 300 Lum goal in every level for maximum Electoon gain.
- 2 Electoons from Cages: Two Electoon cages are hidden within each standard level. These often require careful exploration, precise platforming, or solving small environmental puzzles to reach.
- 2 Electoons from Time Trials: Once you complete a level, a Time Trial becomes available. Beating the target time will award you with the final two Electoons for that stage. These can be quite challenging, demanding speed and flawless execution.
Strategy for Electoon Collection:
- First Pass for Lums & Cages: When replaying levels, focus initially on finding all the Lum cages and collecting as many Lums as possible without worrying too much about speed. Explore every nook and cranny.
- Time Trial Focus: Once you've secured the Lums and cages, switch your focus to the Time Trials. Learn the optimal routes, practice your jumps and attacks, and don't be afraid to restart if you make a mistake early on.
- Utilize Characters: While characters don't have unique abilities, their different animations can sometimes feel more comfortable for certain players. Experiment with Rayman, Globox, Teensy, and other unlocked characters to see if one feels better for speedruns.
Unlocking All Characters
Beyond the initial cast, Rayman Origins features a vibrant roster of unlockable characters, each with their own unique visual flair. These are unlocked by reaching specific Electoon milestones:
- Electoon Milestones: As you collect more Electoons, new characters will become available in the Snoring Tree. Keep an eye on the Electoon counter in the world map to see your progress towards the next unlock.
- Hidden Characters: A few characters are unlocked through more specific means, such as completing all levels in a certain world or achieving a perfect score on a particular challenge. While most are tied to Electoon collection, be aware of these special unlocks.
Tip: visit the Snoring Tree regularly to see which new characters you've unlocked and to switch up your playable hero!
The Land of the Livid Dead
This is where the true challenge begins! After collecting a significant number of Electoons (usually around 220-230, the exact number varies slightly by platform), the portal to the Land of the Livid Dead will open. This secret world consists of five incredibly difficult levels, designed to test every skill you've acquired throughout the game.
- Level Structure: Each level in the Land of the Livid Dead is a relentless gauntlet of obstacles, enemies, and environmental hazards. They are significantly longer and more complex than standard levels.
- No Checkpoints: Be warned: there are no checkpoints within these levels. One mistake can send you back to the very beginning, making patience and precision paramount.
- Electoon Rewards: Successfully completing these levels will reward you with a substantial amount of Electoons, crucial for reaching the ultimate 246 Electoon goal.
Strategies for the Land of the Livid Dead:
- Master All Abilities: Ensure you are proficient with every ability: punching, hovering, wall-running, diving, and swimming. You'll need them all.
- Memorize Patterns: Many sections rely on memorizing enemy movements and environmental patterns. Don't be afraid to die repeatedly to learn the optimal path.
- Patience is Key: Frustration is your biggest enemy here. Take breaks if you find yourself getting too agitated. A fresh mind can make all the difference.
- Co-op Advantage: Playing with friends in co-op mode can sometimes make these levels easier, as You can revive each other. However, it can also introduce more chaos, so choose your partners wisely!
Medal Collection and Score Chasing
Beyond Electoons, each level tracks your performance with medals based on your Lum count and completion time. Striving for gold medals in every category provides an additional layer of challenge and replayability.
- Lum Medals: Earned by collecting a high percentage of Lums in a level. This often means exploring every hidden path and defeating all enemies.
- Time Medals: Awarded for completing a level within a specific time limit. This requires efficient movement and avoiding unnecessary detours.
Achieving all gold medals across every level is a testament to your mastery of Rayman Origins and a fantastic way to extend your playtime long after the main story is complete.
