Connecting with Friends Across Platforms

The process for adding and playing with friends from different platforms is straightforward. Follow these steps to ensure you can join your buddies in any custom room or activity:

  1. Access Your Watch Menu: Tap your in-game watch to bring up the main menu. This is your central hub for all Rec Room interactions.
  2. Navigate to the "People" Tab: Within the watch menu, locate and select the "People" tab. This tab is represented by an icon typically showing two silhouettes.
  3. Use the "Search" Function: Inside the "People" tab, you'll find a search bar. This is where you'll enter your friend's Rec Room username.
  4. Send a Friend Request: Once you've found your friend's profile, select it and then choose the "Send Friend Request" option. They will receive a notification on their respective platform.
  5. Accepting Friend Requests: Your friend will need to accept your request through their own watch menu, also under the "People" tab, in the "Requests" section.
  6. Joining a Room: After becoming friends, you can easily join their current activity. From your "People" tab, select your friend's name, and if they are in a public or invite-only room you have access to, you'll see a "Join" button. Alternatively, they can invite you directly to their room using the "Invite" option from their watch menu.

Important Considerations for Cross-Platform Play

  • Account Linking (Optional but Recommended): While not strictly necessary for basic cross-platform play, linking your Rec Room account to your various platform accounts (e.g., PlayStation Network, Xbox Live) can streamline some features and ensure your progress is consistent across devices. This can usually be done through the "Settings" menu on your watch, under the "Account" section.
  • Voice Chat: Rec Room features integrated voice chat that works seamlessly across all platforms. Ensure your microphone is properly configured on your device for optimal communication. You can adjust microphone settings in the "Settings" menu on your watch, under "Audio."
  • Room Privacy: When creating rooms, be mindful of your privacy settings. For easy cross-platform play with friends, consider setting your room to "Public" or "Invite Only." A "Private" room will require direct invites and is not discoverable by others.
  • Content Compatibility: All user-generated content (UGC) and official Rec Room activities are fully cross-platform compatible. This means a room created on PC will look and function identically for a player on iOS or PlayStation.
  • Performance Differences: While the core experience is consistent, performance can vary slightly between platforms due to hardware differences.
