Rebecca Chambers' Role (Chris Only)
As Chris Redfield, you'll find yourself relying on Rebecca Chambers, the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team medic, for crucial assistance at several points throughout your mansion exploration. Her presence often unlocks new pathways or provides essential items that Chris cannot acquire on his own. Understanding her specific triggers and tasks is vital for a smooth playthrough.
Initial Encounter and Medical Assistance
Rebecca's first significant role comes after your encounter with the first Yawn (giant snake) in the Attic. This event is triggered by examining the "Death Mask" in the Dining Room (1F) and then proceeding to the Attic via the West Staircase (1F) and the door on the second floor landing.
- Location: After the Yawn fight, Chris will be poisoned. Rebecca will find you in the corridor leading back from the Attic.
- Action: Rebecca will automatically administer a Blue Herb to Chris, curing the poison. This is a scripted event and cannot be avoided.
- Important: If you manage to defeat the Yawn in your first encounter, Rebecca will still appear and offer to help, though the poison cure won't be necessary.
Musical Interlude and the "SHE" Music Score
Later in the game, Rebecca will assist Chris in solving a piano puzzle, which is necessary to progress through the mansion's East Wing.
- Location: The Piano Room (1F East Wing). You'll typically access this after obtaining the "Armor Key" and exploring the East Wing.
- Trigger: After entering the Piano Room and attempting to play the piano (Chris cannot play it), Rebecca will appear and offer her assistance.
- Action: Rebecca will ask Chris to find the "SHE" Music Score. This item is located in the small study accessible from the Dining Room (1F), often guarded by a Zombie.
- Steps:
- Return to the Dining Room (1F).
- Enter the small study (door near the fireplace).
- Locate the "SHE" Music Score on the desk.
- Bring the "SHE" Music Score back to Rebecca in the Piano Room.
- Rebecca will then play the piano, revealing a secret passage behind the fireplace.
- Reward: Access to a new area containing the "Gold Emblem" and other valuable items.
V-Jolt Preparation (Optional but Recommended)
Rebecca can also help Chris prepare the V-Jolt, a powerful chemical agent used to defeat Plant 42 without having to fight it directly. This is a highly recommended strategy for conserving ammunition and health.
- Location: The Medical Room (B1), located in the Residence section of the mansion. You'll need the "Helmet Key" to access this area.
- Trigger: After entering the Medical Room, Rebecca will be present. Interact with her.
- Action: Rebecca will offer to mix the V-Jolt if Chris provides her with the necessary chemicals.
- Steps:
- Find the four chemical bottles:
- Water: Found in the Medical Room itself, near the sink.
- UMB No. 3: Located in the small storage room adjacent to the Medical Room.
- NP-004: Found in the Aqua Ring, accessible after draining the water.
- Yellow-6: Also in the Aqua Ring, in a different section.
- Bring all four chemicals to Rebecca in the Medical Room.
- Rebecca will combine them to create the "V-Jolt".
- Take the "V-Jolt" to the roots of Plant 42 in the Aqua Ring and use it.
- Find the four chemical bottles:
- Benefit: This method instantly defeats Plant 42, allowing you to bypass a challenging boss fight.
Final Rescue and Escape
Rebecca's final role is crucial for Chris's survival during the self-destruct sequence in the Underground Lab.
- Location: Underground Lab, after activating the self-destruct sequence.
- Trigger: After battling the Tyrant for the first time and activating the self-destruct, Chris will be trapped.
- Action: Rebecca will appear and unlock the door to the helipad, allowing Chris to escape.
- Important: Ensuring Rebecca is alive and well throughout the game is paramount for achieving the best ending with Chris. If she dies at any point, this final rescue will not occur, leading to a different, less favorable ending.
