Spencer Mansion Map & Item Locations
Navigating the labyrinthine Spencer Mansion is a core challenge of Resident Evil. Understanding the layout and the placement of crucial items is paramount to survival. This guide will help you chart your course through the mansion's treacherous halls, highlighting key areas and the items you'll find within.
Upon entering the mansion, you'll find yourself in the Main Hall. To the west, you'll encounter your first zombies. Be prepared to use your handgun or conserve ammo if possible. The dining room to the north contains a locked door requiring the Shield Key. To the east, you'll find a small room with a save point and a desk containing the Ink Ribbon and a Magnum (if playing as Jill). Be cautious of the zombie that bursts through the window.
The eastern wing of the mansion is critical for early progression. The first floor features a gallery with a painting that hides a secret switch, revealing a hidden passage. This passage leads to a room with a fireplace and a Jewel Case. Further exploration in this wing will lead you to the Courtyard, a vital area for obtaining the Armor Key. Remember to collect the Tiger Stone from the statue in the Courtyard, which, when combined with the Jewel Case, forms the Jewel needed for a later puzzle.
The second floor of the mansion holds further challenges and rewards. The eastern side contains the library, where you can find the Book 1 and Book 2, essential for solving puzzles. The western side features the infamous "Gallery" room, which requires careful navigation to avoid traps and enemies. The Sword Key is found in this area, unlocking many doors throughout the mansion.
Key items to prioritize finding include:
- Ink Ribbons: Essential for saving your progress at typewriters.
- Handgun Ammo: Your primary weapon for dealing with zombies.
- Shotgun Shells: For tougher enemies and crowd control.
- Health Items (First Aid Sprays, Green Herbs): Crucial for survival.
- Keys (Shield Key, Armor Key, Sword Key, Helmet Key, etc.): Unlock new areas and progress the story.
- Puzzle Items (Jewel, Tiger Stone, etc.): Required to overcome specific obstacles.
Always check your map frequently and note down locked doors. The mansion is designed to be explored methodically. Don't be afraid to backtrack once you acquire a new key or item that opens previously inaccessible areas.
